What stinks after accident inside my truck?

I was in an accident (see link below) and now there is a very strong strange ordor inside my truck and no I did not $hit myself during the accident, LOL!!! I noticed it immediately the next day after the accident as it was very very strong chemical kind of smell. I opened up the door today and it still smells, but not that strong. What could this be from? I think the truck will finally be going to the body shop by the end of this week...what a mess.

Ugghh...Body Shop Recommendation For S. Florida (Miami/Ft. Lauderdale) needed

Re: What stinks after accident inside my truck?

I assume the airbags didn't go off which should mean the seatbelt pre-tensioners didn't go off either. Unless maybe you now have a coolant leak (I would think you'd know that though) I don't know of any other "chemical" that would be in the cabin. What exactly does it smell like?

Re: What stinks after accident inside my truck?

Nothing is leaking anywhere under the chasis as it is all bone dry. The battery is almost dead after sitting a week which kind of surprises me as I don't know what would be causing the drain since all the head lamp wiring is still connected with no breaks that I could find. I know its not anti-freeze unless Nissan's stuff has a different smell.

It is a weird smell that the truck never had before. Could it be something with the AC/Evaporator lines are busted and I am smelling R134A?

Airbags did not go off, but apparently the doors some how locked themselves during the accident as I never drive with doors locked but they were locked immediately after the accident and I did not hit the door lock switch.

I would look hard at the battery. If it is dead, you could have a cracked housing. Battery boiling over has a smell I will never forget. Motorhome fried a few before I figured out what it was. A/C could be also, easy check there is to turn it on. If it gets and stays could for more than 5 minutes keep looiking

Re: What stinks after accident inside my truck?

From what I've been told, you can't smell the R134A.... I always had a "scent" in my F-150 and when I told people about it, they just said, "It just smells fresh." I would respond, "EXACTLY! And I've been farting in this truck for over 10 years! How can it still smell "fresh"?!" I always thought it was the A/C system but that's when I found out it's an odorless gas. Sorry, I don't really have any other help for you....

I would think it's got to be the A/C problem that others have. But then again after reading, that battery idea sounds fresh too. I bet we are scaring the hell out of whatever it is!!!

I would go with Bhudda's suggestion.

Sulphuric acid from your battery. It got cracked, lost fluid. That accounts for the smell and losing the charge.

Bhudda454 is exactly right.

Re: What stinks after accident inside my truck?

Thanks guys...after thinking about it I agree that it must be the battery and since it is located on right where the fender got whacked that only makes sense. This really helps a lot and saves me a ton of aggrevation as I am sure I only had a 50% chance that the body shop would pick up on what the problem/smell is from.

Good news is that my truck is on its way to get fixed as I type....We just got done loading it up on the flat bed. So in 2 weeks I will get my truck back hopefully good as new.
