Okay, I'll play along...

Why is it dumb?

You want to increase the range you have and don't want to put auxillary gas tanks in your bed...

By your logic, why would anyone fill up their gas tank past 28 gallons?

Increasing the range another 150 miles at a cost of $500 or more sounds logical to you?

Re: Install a 37 gallon tank on the short bed Titan

I just went out and bought a Titan because I test drove and really liked it. New the manager and said what the hell bought it. Wish I would have got the long bed 4x4 but I still love this truck. LOL

Although I understand your desire for longer range. I wouldn't bother with an add on tank. Especially this being Gasoline, not diesel. The added long term danger of any leakage, crash danger, and weight penalty of hauling additional tank and fuel, simply wouldn't be for me.

It isn't a bad idea depending on how much travel that you do on long trips. I know the swb trucks(ie all pre 07) have a spot on the frame that appears would accomodate another strap for a longer tank. i have contemplate this myself, but since more ppl are interested, next time that i have one in the air, i will measure this discrepancy and check part numbers on the fuel senders.

I'd appreciate it myself to see about the feasibility.

We have folks who are making their own skid plates so fabricating an extension seems doable there.

Thanks.

By increasing the range, I would have the option of hunting for gas stations that are less expensive as opposed to automatically required to buy gas when I'm low. For example, the trip from Raleigh to Grand Rapids makes me stop in West Virginia where gas is expensive and then in Michigan while if I were to stop elsewhere along the trip, I would save a few bucks. I do that twice a year.

Likewise, a day trip to Myrtle Beach, SC wouldn't require a stop at all.

I also take a trip to Florida. Gas in Georgia was the least expensive along the route.

Stowing gas tanks in a bed invites them to get stolen.

SO other than because I think it's cool to mod my Titan, in this case, there are some other benefits I would enjoy.

I have driven from Atlanta to Fort worth... 6 times now... I had to piss before the tank went dry every time.. It went 400+ miles each time.
