key to open bed storage compartment?

i just picked up a 06 SE KC and my ignition key does not work for the storage compartment on the side of the bed. is there another key? i asked the dealership where i got the truck about it and they said they only had what they gave me (two ignition keys). is my lock just ****** up or am i missing a separate key?

Re: key to open bed storage compartment?

It should be the same key as the ignition/doors/etc. I'd want to know why they don't match... New bed? Re-keyed (stolen) truck???

I Got 3 key from the start, 2 Reguarle key (all Black With silver Nissan Logo) and 1 Valet key (all black). The valet key will not fit in the lock, but sometime mine will not open, didn't get the key in the lock all the way

Re: key to open bed storage compartment?

Just make sure you put pressure against the key/box while turning so it will unlatch. on mine, it feels as if the key does not do anything, but as long as you push it in so the latch inside clears to release, if that makes sense.

Re: key to open bed storage compartment?

i do have two keys (one black, one w/chrome logo). I only tried the black one and it didn't go in more than 1/2". i'll try the other and see if i have more success.

thx for the info. would hate to try and hunt down the orig owner (dealer confidentiality) or have to get a locksmith on it.

Re: key to open bed storage compartment?

My ignition keys opens it but it is difficult sometimes. I have to turn it a couple of times before it works.

It will fit but it won't open. that is why it is called the valet key, it only starts the truck and unlocks the doors. it won't open glovebox, side compartment or the tailgate so the lil f**kers can't get into your business.

The regualr key with the silver emblem should open it. The other one is a valet key and will only open the door and work the ignition. The key should work and it's not supposed to go all the way in like it will in the doors or agnition! Just put it in as far as it'll go and turn it. It should open. If not, somethings been rekey'd or that compartment lock may have been changed.

Glad it worked out for you. I use mine for tie down straps and such.
