Question How To Wire 3-100W Off-Road Lights on Same Switch??

Does anyone have a wiring diagram showing me how to wire up (1)-7" 100W ProComp driving light and (2)-7" Lightforce 100W(Each) off-road lights together on the same switch?

I have the following items already:

1 - LED rocker switch w/ inline fuse
1 - 40 amp lighting relay
1 - 30 amp lighting relay
8' of 10 gauge power wire
6' of 12 gauge power wire
8' of 12 gauge ground wire
Plenty of splice and male/female connectors of different varieties

Now, all I need is to know what wires to splice together, which relay terminal goes to which wire, etc., etc .......I'm not an electrical engineer......THANKS!!!

Re: How To Wire 3-100W Off-Road Lights on Same Switch??

Mount the relay near the lights. Take FUSED power from the battery to the relay. No fuse is necessary to go from the relay to the lights.
Ground the relay, and the lights.
Install switch in cab. Take a Fused power wire to the switch (low amperage is ok, and preferred here) Run a wire from the switch to the relay.
One 40 amp relay should be sufficient, but if it is not, then split the wire from the single switch, to the second relay. The relay's need very little power to turn on and off.

If you don't know, a relay is just a switch, run by electricity. That is what the cab switch does, is turn the relay on and off. This way, the high amps aren't going through the cab, but from the battery, through the relay, to the lights.

I know where to find a schematic, but it is on a ford forum, I'll post the link if you wish.

I couldn't resist. Here's the link. Look at the first post. Don't worry about the diode, or 'factory reverse wire'. This is for a different project, that I have actually done, and plan to do on my next vehicle.

Moderators, if I am not supposed to post links, please delete, and accept my apologies....

Look here, this explains how a relay works and how to wire them. http://www.the12volt.com/relays/relays.asp

Re: How To Wire 3-100W Off-Road Lights on Same Switch??

There is a diagram here showing typical relay contacts:

Electrical & Audio Information

100W + 100W + 100W = 300W

Ohms law V=IR 300W / 10 Volts (allowing for resistance in wire + safety margin) = 30 amps so the 40 amp relay should run all three lights.

10 gauge wire is fine

http://www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm

Run the 10 gauge from the battery to the relay and use 12 gauge from relay to the lights if you run out of 10 gauge.

Use something small for the relay trigger to the switch as the current for the trigger is less than 1 amp.
