Firestone Airbags

I am getting ready to move to Alaska in April and will be towing a 6K lbs trailer. I have seen several people recommend these airbags to help with the tongue weight. Any opinions on these or other similar types. What's the cheapest I could get a set and where at. Also, is the on board compressor worth the money? Thanks for the help.

Re: Firestone Airbags

Someone with more knowledge of the airbags will chime in to help you I'm sure but....with only 6k LBS, you shouldn't need airbags. Keep the tongue weight within the 960LB capacity and you'll do fine. Especially if you have a load leveling hitch and sway control.

Re: Firestone Airbags

I'm not sure what hitch I will be using. You can get free use of a trailer and some gas money if you haul up a trailer for the manufacturer. Shipping for them is much more expensive than paying someone to haul it up for them. I will probably be using whatever they supply. I'll install a break controller for sure though.

Re: Firestone Airbags

I have them on my Titan. I bought them about a year ago at Suspenion Connection. You would have to go to their website to check the price. I am sure it has changed. Overall I really like them and they are out of site out of mind when you dont need them. I just pump mine up with a hand pump. I only tow about 10-12 times per year so its not a big deal to use the pump. I installed them myself without any problems so thats makes it a very easy install.

Re: Firestone Airbags

As HVT has pointed out you should be able to get away without them because you should be using a weight distribution hitch for loads over 5,000 pounds.

I also purchased mine from Suspension Connection. I think they were about about $225, and they were simple to install. I did not get the on-board compressor, while its convenient to have, it will add to the cost.

If you ever thought you were going to tow a lot in the future or tow heavier loads I would definitely recommend them.

Re: Firestone Airbags

When we get to anchorge I will probably be buying a boat within the year. So yeah I will be pulling fairly often. Might be nice to have them to help save on wear of the truck.

Re: Firestone Airbags

I have airlift now and have Firestone in the past. Firestones work OK but make the ride just suck. Get the Airlift Air bags you will much happier. Summit Racing seems to have the best price but you could also check with Greg at PRG.

Re: Firestone Airbags

I have the firestone, and didn't notice any difference in the ride as long as the pressure is below 10 psi. I think they are the most heavy duty looking ones on the market. I have the onboard compressor with the dual control and love it. I use them all the time just to keep the truck level. It is nice to load the bed up and not have to worry about the truck sagging. We went to new braunfels to go tubing with a bunch of other titans, and we piled in the back of one and had to unload some people because we were rubbing the tires, we should have taken my truck, but I was already a little drunk. I would highly recommend them, even if you don't tow a large load.

Like RobKar said the firestone ride rougher they are for more like a 3/4ton and up, but firestone just made some this year for 1/2 tons, but I'll be buying the Airlift in about a week with the compressor from Summit Racing, about $185 for the bags and $125 for the compressor.

Cool. Thanks for the info. That's why I like this site. I would never have known about the Airlifts without it.
