Re: how can u tell if your rear end is going out?
My first rear end... would make a SNAP sound when turning into a driveway at low speeds... it would do the same reversing out. It would only make the sound at low speeds, and when just starting to move from a stand still.
One night, it had just started raining... I got in my parked truck, started her up, gave her a decent amount of gas, one wheel started to spin, and then I heard BAAAAAAANG! The revs went up, the truck went no where, until i let off the gas.... then it caught again.... but after that, when attempting to make any type of turn it would go CLANK CLANK CLANK... and off it was towed to the dealer the next day. This was with 13xxx on the odometer
My current rear end, with approx 25xxx on the odometer (so 12xxx on the rear end) will slip every now and then, when making a tight turn (like around a cul-de-sac). No noise is made, but the slip is quite apparent.
I will be revisiting a dealership very soon.... but not the original dealership. When I first had the SNAPPING sounds from my original rear diff, I took it to them, and they told me "to bring it back when it gets worse".
