Nissan Website Lies

I recent got an updated "Tires and Loading" sticker for my 08 SE CC 4x4 LWB. On it, it lists the maximum payload to be about 1380 lbs. The original sticker listed it at about 100 lbs more. Anyway, I din't remember the payload being that low. So, I looked at the Nissan website and for my model it lists the cargo capacity at about 1580 lbs. I know that the website isn't necessarily "official", but I'm a bit perturbed that they would have such a blatant error. One of my requirements for a new truck was a minimum payload of 1500 lbs. Had I known the payload was only 1380, I might have opted for a short bed instead. I know an extra 100 lbs or so won't cause the wheels to fall off. The only way I'll know what the true payload capacity is is to go weigh it and subtract that from the GVWR.

Re: Nissan Website Lies

There is enough safety margin, I wouldn't worry about a 100# or so differance. Errors of this type are fairly commonly found.

Best payload is likely a shortbed 2WD KC XE.

Re: Nissan Website Lies

I think the 2008.5 has a higher payload. Do you have the 2008?

08s and 08.5s are identical. But I'm not sure what all the fuss is all about here. The payload capacity for the LWB CC is 1582 LBS. You should have (or will soon) received a recall letter and a new weight sticker along with an explaination on how to adhere it and why.

NTB08-022 February 28, 2008
VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN
2008 FRONTIER, TITAN, XTERRA, TIRE INFORMATION LABEL
CAMPAIGN I.D. # R0802
NHTSA # 08V-045
APPLIED VEHICLE: 2008 Frontier (D40)
2008 Titan (A60)
2008 Xterra (N50)
APPLIED VINs: Frontier; 1N6(*)D0(***)8C 400011 – 420591
Titan; 1N6(*)A0(***)8N 300036 – 335852
Xterra; 5N1AN08W(*)8C 500945 – 502786
NOTE: Check Service Comm to confirm campaign eligibility.
INTRODUCTION
Nissan has determined that the tire information label on some Model Year 2008 Nissan
Xterra, Titan, and Frontier vehicles fails to conform to one of the requirements specified in
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 110 “Tire Selection and Rims.” The
tire information label provides important safety information including recommended tire
inflation pressure and “vehicle capacity weight” (the maximum combined weight of
occupants and cargo). The tire information label on some of the Applied Vehicles
incorrectly lists the vehicle capacity weight. It is overstated by 2 to 106 pounds. The
information on the tire information label must be correct because it is important that the
combined weight of occupants and cargo is never exceeded.
To remedy this condition, Nissan is conducting this Voluntary Safety Recall Campaign to
provide a replacement tire information label that lists the correct vehicle capacity weight at
no charge for parts or labor.
IDENTIFICATION NUMBER
Nissan has assigned identification number R0802 to this campaign. This number must
appear on all communications and documentation of any nature dealing with this campaign.
NUMBER OF VEHICLES POTENTIALLY AFFECTED
The number of vehicles potentially affected by this campaign is approximately 5,500.
2/5 NTB08-022
DEALER RESPONSIBILITY
It is the dealer’s responsibility to check Service Comm for the campaign status on each
vehicle falling within the range of this voluntary safety recall which for any reason enters the
service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by
transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in a dealer’s inventory. Federal law requires that
new vehicles in dealer inventory which are the subject of a safety recall must be
corrected prior to sale. Failure to do so can result in civil penalties by the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration. While federal law applies only to new vehicles,
Nissan strongly encourages dealers to correct any used vehicles in their inventory before
they are retailed.

Re: Nissan Website Lies

Base on the notice I just posted, it would seem the rating would go down not up.
