The merger was just approved. What's your thoughts on this?

You have two choices in life:
You can stay single and be miserable,
or get married and wish you were dead.
I think it's good as long as they keep Sirius' music channels and ditch the crappy XM ones. Plus I love that I'll finally be able to use the stock receiver in my honda instead of doing what I do now, I have factory XM disabled and I use a Sportster to listen to Sirius.
I'm not too worried about monopoly actually, frankly this was headed in that direction anyway (probably) since neither company has turned a profit yet. It seems that sooner or later one of them was going to fold anyway and then what? At the end of the day they charge what they charge and those who buy will buy and those who wont wont. It is not a necessary item for me (or anyone for that matter) and there are half decent alternatives such as HD radio (which is why this was approved).

I'm the complete opposite. I'm a non sat radio listener and listen 95% of the time to my iPod. I just like the control of being able to pick which exact songs I listen to and what order.
Having said that, I would probably be more inclined to pull the trigger on sat radio once XM/Sirius has merged and I won't have to pick which service provides the better channels.
I'm waiting for satellite radio to get a clue and move their sales model to receiver technology and not subscription services.
The fidelity of Sat radio is still not up to par. I don't know the 'real' numbers - but to my ears it's not even as good as 128 kbps mp3's (which suck).

Was listening to talk radio just now when they mention the two sat. radios would merge into one the down fall would be the need to buy new units something about the old ones would not work after the merger

This is the exact opposite of what XM and Sirius promised. They said the old equipment would work.

cool...hopefully we can still get our choices of all programming of both providers not some limited package bundles that SAT TV does. NO commericals is a must. Software controls data the equipment reads so I would think it would be compatible.
