My local dealership hosts a two hour radio show once weekly.
This week the dealership owner and the general manager broke the news that Nissan has a deal with Cummins to provide both a heavy duty and a medium duty diesel for Nissan to install in pickup trucks beginning with the 2010 model year. That means sometime in 2009!
They didn't give any other details. Does this mean some kind of collaboration with Dodge? Don't know, they didn't say.
I've always felt that a light duty diesel made a lot of sense for a pickup owner who doesn't need to tow heavy stuff. A 4.5L turbo-charged V6 diesel with about 450-500 foot pounds of torque, that gets about 24-25 MPG would sure be something I'd buy.
Are you sure they didn't say the diesel was to install in "light commercial vehicles"? That's all I've heard up until now. Somehow, a radio show by a dealership doesn't seem like the way Nissan would break that kind of news.
More and more this sounds like we are looking at a re badged Ram in 2010. I hope not as that '09 Ram is U G L Y And that multilink control arm rear end setup is bound to flop with truck buyers for sure. I like the idea of the Cummins, but I don't think Nissan will create a platform on their own for it. Guess we will have to wait and see. That just means the 1st gen Titans will hold their value better being the last of the real Nissan's.

2010 will be the LCV. And there is no dodge-nissan truck in the works.
If you are interested in the scoop on these trucks, sign up for google news alerts on the keywords "nissan titan." Lots of talk about the diesel for their Light Commercial Vehicle - nothing about this engine in the Titan.

I did exactly that and I got this:

Yea-yea i know its pointing out obvious speculation but you said:
Umm, I work at a Nissan dealership. The yuppies who think they are coming out with a diesel this year are on drugs. The NVs are brand new this year and so is the Juke. The next thing to come out early next year will be the Leaf. There has been no talk of the Titan in a diesel for at least another 2 years. Once they remodel the truck itself. Considering it's been the same since 2004. So before you go saying all of this crap... ensure you know what you're talking about otherwise you look like a fool. One of the few reasons I even signed up for this was to tell you all what's what.
