You're still paying interest, except now it's spread out over 25 yrs. It's your business, but that still doesn't change the fact that its a bad financial move.
Hmmmm... Fact huh?? Well, there's always more to learn isn't there?

Like you say...it's his business but you're right...lol. He'll get it once he sits down and figures it out on paper. Short term, it looks good because you keep the same monthly payment and the car loan payments disappear. But long term, a small part of every payment for the next 25 years is going towards vehicles no longer owned. And yes, that includes interest. In todays hard times though, I understand the move.

Hey POps - good move. Disregard the naysayers. Debt is to be managed - not ignored. Cash flow overides. With the downsizing planned, and witht he interest now deductible - you did OK. The last time I checked, transportation of any type was a bad investment, but absolutely essential.
Well, considering my credit has always been perfect, I'm the single 5-figure household income, living in a neighborhood where everyone else makes 6-7 figures, and my property has appreciated about $150k in 3 years, I'll keep doing what I'm doing regardless of anyone else's opinion.
It is my business and I usually keep it to myself and only posted it just in case it might help someone else. I'm not saying you guys are wrong in what you're saying, but you have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to my particular situation. I've been working the numbers and evaluating all options for quite a few months and I know for a fact this one will work for me, it was just a matter of getting into the right rate. I understand those of you calling me an idiot, but you've shown nothing to show that you know any better.
I have a "regular" job, my Wife doesn't work, I never went to college, and I owe less on my mortgage than many of my neighbors for where I am. Oh yea, I guess it might (but maybe not) make a difference if I posted that I've already paid off over 60% of my mortgage.
Anyway, I only posted it attempting to help with ideas for people who are feeling the crunch more of a FWIW rather than a suggestion. It's not for everyone, that's for sure. Instead of blabbing about how dumb I am, post how smart you are. Lets see what you got and how you plan to deal with your future. The idea here is to share for possibly helping others deal with the situation at hand, not to downgrade and shout, "Ha, ha, I'm smarter than you are but I just don't wanna show it."
I have a long-term plan laid out that I think might work for me, do you??? What are you gonna do to send your babies through college???

I never called you an idiot...never would. If it works for you great. I should have just left it alone. It's none of my business. Sorry.
As much as I love my Titan, I had to do something to cope with the rising gas prices... So, my Titan has been relegated to fishing duty on the weekends. Here's my new daily commuter... Attachment 60643
My first full tank, which is 16 gallons, yielded me a nice 492 miles, which comes out to 30.75 mpg.
I had a Honda Accord as my daily driver, then gave it to my niece. Can't wait for the 09 Civic's to come out. Hopefully, that'll be my next daily driver!
Sorry Guys, just trying to get this thread back on the main subject.
Yeah, i'm in the same boat, except my Titan has been parked for the best mode of transportation due to gas prices, a dual suspension mountain bike. It's 4.9 miles each way, less than 20 mins into work including stop lights. I think it'll pay off in more ways than one!

Actually, it's money and I'm just really interested in seeing what others are doing, especially everytime I see one of these threads come up. I've seen a few people trading their Titans in for Altimas and am curious what the rest of us are going to do.
Parking the Titan and driving a PT Cruiser for a DD seems like a smart move, especially if the Titan can be paid off.
I really respect your opinions for the most part and didn't mean anything against you or anyone else, just trying to push for postings of some ideas that others are doing to deal with their situation. Seems to me that the Titan might eventually become an "icon" like the Skyline GT, Supra, or '57 Chevy did, especially with the Dodge merger coming up and it's cool to hear what others are doing to hang onto their "babies".

I've had the same thought on that. Wonder (Dreaming) of holding onto it for 20 years or more, as my personal antique. Rare to save money by buying a second car, with real cost of insurance, maintenance etc. But many of us will consider many things. My home situation is similiar to yours. My wife drives a 04 malibu, but she would never drive the Titan! And she won't let me have her Malibu either, I wouldn't think... A Moped almost makes sense, but crash worthiness is not inline with my desires...

I do understand and again, I didn't mean to pry. I bought a used 01 Bug with only 35k miles on it so I didn't have to drive the gas chugging Titan everywhere and save a few barrels of oil...lol. If I didn't have this big TT to haul around, I'd probably have downsized to the Frontier but.....damn this V8 is sweet.

I've been considering going back to a Gixxer also but being a bread earning father now has me doubting if it'd be wise with all of the careless drivers on the road, I pass at least one wreck every morning. As "gay" as I think it looks, I've also been considering something like the Smart car because it's only $10k-$15k and gets about 50mpg like a bike but is more visible to non-attentative drivers.

You're not prying at all, I posted to share an idea so that others might post theirs. As for the Frontier, that'd still be close to 17mpg's and it seems to me that would probably be close to the current situation. The '01 Bug for a DD on the other hand, seems like a better way to go. My daughter is gonna be 16 in a few years and I've also been tossing the idea of buying a used efficient 4-cyl early for her so that I can use it until then and have it paid and clear by the time she's ready for it and just have Liability Ins coverage on her. A Bug or a Mini have been on my mind for that but I have to make it where the Ins & Tags are cost efficient. That's the other thing about rolling the Auto payments over into the Mortgage, is that it will allow me to reduce my current Auto Insurance coverage to lower my current insurance payments. Smart, Bug, Mini, PT, Gixxer, or whatever, I think it's very interesting to see what everyone is doing to plan ahead, it seems bound to affect all of us sooner or later..
well i am definetly doing the wrong thing. i am steadily going up with my truck lol. my truck will be a yr old this month and has 34000miles on it. i drive the wheels off it. i spend about 200 a wk in gas just for work. about 3days to a tank of gas. sometimes more. maybe a sportbike is looking closer and closer in the near future.

You may want to check the MPG on the Smart Car. I've heard they're about 35 MPG, which would still be an improvement. Probably cheaper mainteneance as well.....

I get about 4 car magazines a month, All of them have said the same thing. You can get an Aveo, Civic, Yaris, etc with the same or better MPG and more space/trunk, and more crash crumple zones. The Smart cars are currently turning out about 35-40mpg, just as good as the civic etc.
If the smart car consistently turned out 60-70MPG it would be much better and worth the price, but what they are saying currently is, that it is not worth the change.
