Tailgate Weight Rating

Anyone know the weight limit on the tailgate? I usually haul my motorcycle in the back of my CC, but the rear end of my bike sits on the tailgate because the bike is so long. My bike weighs about 600 lbs. There doesn't seem to be a problem with the rear end of my bike sitting on the tailgate, but thought I'd ask just in case (can't find the rating in the owner's manual).

Re: Tailgate Weight Rating

This has been discussed before and if memory serves me right, the rating is around 350 lbs. Seems like many have hauled a bike with the back tire on the tailgate and have not had problems.

Re: Tailgate Weight Rating

Nissan conservatively rates the tailgate at 200 lbs. I think that it can hold more, just keep an eye on it. If I were to haul a bike I would cut 3/4 inch plywood to fit the bed from front to the end of the tailgate and then place one long 2X6 or 2X8 under both wheels of the bike. That will help even out the load.

The tailgate is rated at 350 LBS according to the dealer.

Re: Tailgate Weight Rating

I wonder what the "actual" rating is for the Tundra tailgate? 150lbs max? :P

Re: Tailgate Weight Rating

Tundra tailgate 150 lb max? If that were for real, then even I couldn't bounce walk or bounce around on it. It's probably around 350 lbs or whatever all the other manufacturers are rating their tailgates, but someone forgot a few load calculations to determine where to put the reinforcements or extra welds. Oh wait, Japanese culture is to design and then reinforce, not redesign because it insults the designer. Expect their tailgate to be 25-50 lbs heavier for the same weight rating in the next few years, if they ever fix the problem.

As for our tailgate, I don't remember the weight rating, but it handles riding mowers, motorcycles, and 4-wheelers without problems, at least from what I see in the plant parking lot and from what I hear from people at work.
