I've been scoping out a 2008.5 Titan. There's one at a local dealer with 500 miles on it. They say that it is not a loaner, and I found out that it has been on the lot for almost 6 months.
I was told by a friend who works for Nissan that "Titans are sitting on the lot so long they are beginning to breed." LOL.
So the question is, would you have a problem purchasing this truck?
Is break-in a concern, as the 500 miles were probably done by 62 different people hammering the truck on a test drive?
Would you demand (yes, I think I've got a little negotiating leverage) that the dealer change any of the fluids? I was thinking at a bare minimum the oil and filter.
Is there anything else that you would be concerned about?
P.S.: I also want the d*#ned thing with a full tank of fuel.

My dealer sells all their vehicles with full tanks. And no, you're not gonna get them to needlessly change all the fluids. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Any vehicle on that lot could have been test driven...no big deal. That's what the warranty is for. 500 miles is nothing. Get a good price and be happy. My local dealer has only 1 Titan. Nissan isn't sending them any because they'll probably sit. Problem is, they ARE getting people wanting them but they don't have them to sell! It's like they're making their own demand higher than the supply.

I recently bought a fairly loaded (leather, Rockford Fosgate, Big Tow, etc.) 2008.5 Pro-4X that had been on the lot for 4 months. It had 118 miles on it. I got a heck of a deal though, a little over $23K before taxes, etc. That price includes the factory rebate, which was $5k.
I would not worry about the miles. Break in is somewhat overrated and highly debated. Some say it's better to hammer it during break in others say to keep RPMs low, vary speed etc. I think driving it normally is the best method, which is most likely what happened to the truck you're wondering about. Not to mention, it will have the factory warranty. I would also not get too hung up about the oil change. IMO, it gives the dealer some leverage. Worst case, do it yourself or take it to Jiffy Lube. It's not that much cash.
Make a lowball offer and walk away when they refuse it. Chances are they will call you back within a few days, at least they did for me.
Was the truck transfered from a different dealer that was a long way away? That could account for the higher miles. It wouldn't bother me, but I would want to get something for it. I mean, if I could get a truck with 10 miles and a truck with 500 miles for the same price, then I would go for the 10 miles. Think about how much more you would be willing to spend for a truck that hasn't been driven, and keep that number in your mind when you deal. So it should for you it should be invoice minus incentives minus 1-2% minus however much you think those miles are worth.
Wow, how the heck did you swing that deal? I paid 29,500 for the same truck and I thought that was a great deal.
I just wasn't in a hurry. Went through the process and made an offer, they initially refused it. The sales manager called me on the last day of the month (April) and we made the deal. I love the truck. Also, mine is a king cab, yours may be crew cab, that would explain some (most) of the difference.

I have the King Cab too. I imagine your 23K included a trade or a down payment or something.
My Titan had 12 miles when I bought it, but I bought a Kia Sorento with 470 miles, and got a heck of a deal and no problems. GO AND GET IT, DON"T EVEN THINK TWICE.
I would not touch that truck. Every Ford and chevy guy has driven that truck to check out the power. Warranty or no warranty, you can get the same deal on one with 10 miles or 500 miles.

I doubt that's the case. If it was, they'd have bought it.

Warrenty doesn't begin until you sign the paper work. And usually the longer its been in thier invetory the better deal you will get, I could have bought an 08' that MSRP was 33,700 my price was 24,000 out the door. Meaning they will do what they have to to get rid of old invetory, some of the dealer ships are doubling rebates around here
Hang on there, the warranty began the FIRST day the vehicle was reported sold.If this truck is an unwind, the warranty could already have begun.
Check with the dealer and get the "in-service" date on this truck first.
You can look at the window sticker and see what dealership the truck was originally sold to. My truck was a dealer swap between dealers 300 miles apart. So my truck had a little over 300 miles on it when I bought it.

Do you mind if I ask what the sticker price was BEFORE the big discount?
