Just bought a Titan and have concerns.

I Love my new Titan and it was the only non-diesel full size truck I like but my concerns are... the truck- its the first year of the Titan, what should i look out for? The brakes- I've heard about problems with them, what's the issue? The rear diff- another guy had an 04 and he had to replace his because it "blew up" The seals- same guy said Nissan replaced them all. The tarnny- he also said many problems. Was his truck a lemon or did I get myself into trouble?

I personally don't have an 04 but from what I have read over time I don't think there is anything major to be concerned about. The brakes had a TSB to fix them and as for the rear diff there have benn a few issues but that will be covered under the powertrain warranty if there is an issue at all. Over all you have an awesome truck and with the regular maintenance you should be OK.

I have an 04 that I bought new. I had the brake problems but that was it. Nissan covered it all and was not a pain at all. The 04s are awesome and will hold up wonderfully. Transmission problems are far and few between, at least from what I have heard. Congrats on the truck, you are going to love it!

Re: Just bought a Titan and have concerns.

I have an '04.

Had the brake judder fix as well as a couple other TSB's that popped up.

Also had the rear axle replaced.

Not a big deal to get done.

An '04 will treat you just fine.

Re: Just bought a Titan and have concerns.

The transmissions in these trucks are top notch and the only ones that I have heard of that have had transmission problems are mostly supercharged Titans. You should be just fine with an '04.

Re: Just bought a Titan and have concerns.

On my '05, which is esentially an '04 but a year newer (great logic huh?), I've had no problems except for the front brake judder and a leaking tranny hose (bottom fitting). Got the revised rotor/pads and tranny cooler hose/clamp under warranty and that was it. No axle problems or seal leaks. It's been an awesome truck and I can't for the life of me figure out WHY this truck ain't SELLING any better for Nissan? I guess people wouldn't know a good thing if it bit them on the a$$. Well..except for us Titan owners that is.lol!

Oh yeah, I think the '04's were the only year to not have the WOT throttle restriction the later models have. So if you have an '04, you're faster out of the box than any Titan made since with factory stock tuning.

Interesting. I don't remember hearing that before about no restriction on the WOT on the '04s. I always figured any performance mods were just nice to have, but not a priority for my usage, and maybe that's why.
I always felt it was kick-azz enough.

I had one axle seal die at 38,000 miles but it was covered by the 60,000 mile power-train warranty. Brakes have been great since the free "permanent fix" about 45K miles ago, and I brake a bunch due to the roads I drive and my driving style ... I prefer to be hard on the brakes and baby the much more expensive transmission. I would almost consider Nissan brakes as replacements, but will most likely get the rotors from FrozenRotors.com and the Hawk pads they carry, (when the time comes).

Overall, my '04 has been great and I will never sell it. As for exploding rear differentials, I think the percentage is probably 0.01% or less. I've used my e-lock plenty of times off roading with no issues, and it was built the first month that the locker became available.
