Re: Cold Air intake Question

I bought one initially for my '08 despite reading on here about the problems associated with the intake.

Not sure what you mean or where you heard MAJOR problems? I thought it had a bad MAF sensor location which caused trouble codes. Which was exactly what happened to me. I was dissappointed becuase im an AFE fan, the Filter was well designed and HUGE. Throttle response was excellent and teh sound SUCKED alot.

Unfortunately, i did get the bank one too rich code - which the engineers at AFE said was most likely the ecu adapting to all the extra air and dumping fuel. They had no fix and it was something i could not live with on my brand new truck.

I returned it and bought the S&B which also has a well designed but much smaller filter. However, it is a sealed design so overall think it all works out better.

Hope this helps

I have had my AFE in for about 3 weeks now, no problems, but i think it was a waste of $250, i don't notice much gain, but, i do notice it (as you said) Sucks a lot.

I had it a week and didnt notice much at first either. Not sure you're supposed to...the HP ratings they give at the manufacturer are BS, maybe get 5 or 10 more which is hardly noticeable.

A week after owning the AFE i did teh Magnaflow mufffler swap. With the free flowing muffler and the intake combined i felt a nice increase.

air in air out. if you want to take full advantage of the intake i think you should free up the exhaust a little more

$70 for the 18" magnaflow which is fairly easy for an exhaust shop as its a direct replacement in size. The Local exhaust shop owed me a favor so i didnt have to pay for them to weld it in there. I think between $40 and $70 for the labor would be waht to expect.

Louder and deeper. It was a great substitute for purchasing a complete exhaust. Thanks Titantalk for educating me!

Side note to the OP - I did not get a trouble code until after the muffler swap

Re: Cold Air intake Question

When I first installed my AEM intake, the truck died about 1 mile down the road. It turn out the ECM froze up with the flow. The shop reset the ECM and i haven't had a problem since.
