What's goin on guys? I don't post a lot because the sites search usually answers my questions. But here's my problem...
I used to buy GM half-ton-Z-71's with the G80 locking rear diff. I guess I didn't know how much I utilized that rear end until now. I take care of a piece of property that involves climbing a long very steep uneven (dirt, gravel and millings) driveway/logging trail. I never had to put those trucks in 4wd to get up it. The ABLS is useless even if I try and feather the gas.
Once I get up to the clearing if there's the slightest hint of dew it's like I'm on ice. Frustration sets in and usually a one wheelie peeley rooster tail appears in my mirror.
With that in mind being that I live a couple miles south of Buffalo, NY I wanted to buy a TruTrac for my truck before winter.
So I've read all of the Detroit TruTrac info that I can, and I've got more questions than before. I have a 2008.5 CC ProMax. I've read that they don't make one for 2008.5.
I called and spoke with Michael at West Coast Diffs and he said it didn't matter that part #913A582 fits all Titans and it was $540.00. But, I tend to listen to the wise old owls on the site because we all have the Titan in common not 400 different makes or models. Also what really concerns me is that I have 2100 miles on the truck and with the e-lock it sounds like I have to take my truck to the doc for a hysterectomy (shims and dremel) .
Lastly the friggin truck rocks and everyone else takes a backseat, I just want to make it a little better.
Without beating a dead horse any new info will help. Thanks

First of all, if you're used to the G80, you got spoiled...it locks up pretty good...
I've had my 04' up some pretty good(bad?) hills and the ABLS worked actually better then I thought it would...Made it up at least two hills that would not have unless I had the ABLS at the very least...
The 2008.5 is SUPPOSED to have a slightly beefier rear end and bigger axle shafts which mean the earlier TruTrac woun't work...
My last full sized truck had a Detroit Locker...talk about being spoiled off road!

Rumor is Eaton/Detroit isn't going to make a Truetrac for 2008+ Titans. It would be kinda silly since Nissan has effectively cancelled the Titan line. Makes no sense to manufacture a product for a vehicle that will be around for only two more years. I e-mailed them over two weeks ago and still haven't received a response. I've been thinking of trading in my '04 for an '08, but was disappointed when I heard Detroit probably won't be making a compatible Truetrac.
What type of driving are you guys doing that would make having a tru-trak, or the like, necessary? I find the ABLS to be very useful myself but I don't offroad.

Hudson Valley area of BEAUTIFUL upstate NY!
Hudson mine might not be working right. My ABLS is useless when I go off of the road. I don't consider where I'm at off-roading because cars climb it fine. It's all loose gravel and millings with some ruts on either side. As soon as the rear tires go over the ruts it just spins and my "slip" light let's me know that the tire is slipping. I have to put it in 4wd everytime. I'm not putting the gas to the floor either. I try to let the system work and I have never seen my driver rear tire spin!!! What about Powertrax anyone have any luck? I've heard that it's kind of aggresive for daily street use.
I still can't believe that West Coast Diff insisted everything was the same with my truck and that the previous Trutrac would work. I don't know what makes the 08 & 08.5's different. If anyone knows let me know!

Supposedly there are no mechanical changes to the 2008.5 from the 2008... I'm in the same boat as you. The oem e-locker is the best we've got... one of these days I need to enlist some help in getting it wired to a switch so I don't have to be in 4-low
No Truetrac for the 08 or 08.5 as of now. Hopefully that will change but West Coast is wrong if they are telling you the previous model TT will fit.
I don't know if they are even looking at releasing one for the 08-

what would it take to install a beefier rearend into our truck? Im assuming if it has the same track-width it should pretty much be a bolt-on affair (minus welding on the correct shock mounts)? thinking maybe a ford 9" or something beefier maybe?

PRG has a Ford 9" rear in his 2wd, pre-runner Titan:
I know that will probably be the route I go if my rearend fails out of warrenty....why drop 1500 on another failure prone rearend when you can get a fairly bulletproof one.........
