Stealing my Gas???

Hey all. Anyone know if we can get a locking gas cap for our Titans? I think someone is siphoning gas out of my tank at night (gonna figure out a way to catch the mother f!*#er). Cali gas prices are $4.15/gal right now...I guess gas theft is becoming more common here.

Also, is there a part I can get to put a lock on my glovebox? I carry my pistol around alot and I hate leaving it in there unlocked (yes, I know any burglar can pry open a locked glove box easily...just want to add one more hurdle for them I guess)

Re: Stealing my Gas???

With the rising fuel prices I have heard of a lot of this going on. I hate thiefs.

Re: Stealing my Gas???

So are our truck vulnerable to this? (well obviously everyone is a possible target but i think some cars/trucks are harder to get at) I remember seeing in the paper the other day that thieves were now drilling into the tanks because some newer trucks/suv's have devices on the gas inlet to prevent gas from coming out in a rollover or something which also makes it harder to steal gas from. Anyone know the setup of our gas tanks?

Re: Stealing my Gas???

I thought about that the other day and came up with an idea. If your truck is a flex fuel truck and you can find ethanol somewhere, fill it up with that and hopefully the thief's car isn't a flex fuel vehicle and if I'm not mistaken, it will wreak havoc on their car.

Re: Stealing my Gas???

I have front bench seats so my center box is non-locking. Yeah, my driveway slants but after driving awhile the fuel gauge will go back to normal. Not doing that sometimes. You're right....it's prob just the crappy mileage of the truck. I'm still gonna look into those locking caps. Thanks fellas.

PS: Any way to make a locking storage for a 12 gauge shotty? HAHAHA

Re: Stealing my Gas???

Why do you need the pistol and the 12 gauge shotgun? You live in South Central or Compton?

I had a Fram locking gas cap on my truck for a few months, but it kept triggering the CEL. I got rid of it and have had no problems since. However, with gas theft on the rise, I'm thinking about getting another one. I wonder if the Stant version works better than the Fram?

Talking about gas caps, did you know the '09 F-150 won't even have a gas cap? It's just going to have some kind of flapper door thingy for the pump nozzle to go through when you pump gas in.lol!

Re: Stealing my Gas???

Don't know how true this is. I went to buy a locking gas cap and the guy told me to save my money. He said that my Titan should have a screen built in to stop someone from inserting a hose into the gas tank. He said most newer cars and trucks are like this. Can someone verify this?
