Reset of computer required with air intake mod?

OK guys, stupid question. I just put on a Nismo intake system and need to know if I should disconnect the battery in order to reset the computer for proper adjustment, or is it so minor a change that it's not necessary? I haven't noticed any difference in performance...yet.

You don't have to...but might as well.

Do NOT reset your ECU. Give it a day or two and it will learn faster than reseting your ECU. Also reseting your ECU will wipe out other data and your MPG will suffer.

Re: Reset of computer required with air intake mod?

Thanx guys. I certainly don't need to negatively affect my gas mileage...my wife does that when she drives it.

Re: Reset of computer required with air intake mod?

Listen to baseballfanz, I reset after adding my intake and exhaust and my mileage dropped for 2-3 tanks of gas...afterwards though it went up more than before the mods, but it's not worth doing the reset IMO.

What BBfanz is telling you is right on. He will not give you bad info.

And that's how you get your ECU to learn a more aggressive driving style.

And then your mileage suffers too. ....and the beat goes on....

Can you really put a price on adding SMILES per gallon?

I admit, everytime I hear it sucking in a huge breath to pass some *** clown I smile and sometimes I'll even let myself giggle. The SO just looks over and laughs at me... I'm a big kid and intend to remain that way... Wait until I get exhaust and can really scare small children and old ladies!

Re: Reset of computer required with air intake mod?

Isn't that "Are you sure you want to do that?" pause a blast. My wife let her mom drive it on a road trip. (yeah, I must love her a lot) Being used to a Toyota Highlander she pushed the pedal into what would normally be a safe and grandmotherly accelerating position. Instead she found the "oh sh*t" setting and promptly pulled off the road to let my wife drive again.

Re: Reset of computer required with air intake mod?

I mash it hard when I get a wild hair caught sideways, but I do baby the Titan. I can tell when the wife drives it by looking at the trip miles, because I reset the odometer at every fill up to compute gas mileage, which is terrible when she drives it. She "loves to hear it rumble". I do like feeling the power surge when I get on it though!
