someone please expleain the differences between the two, went to the dealer today and told them i have to have big tow, crewcab, 4x4, they did a dealer locate, not one dealer had a big tow, but some had a regular tow package, so what the difference. Ill say what i noticed, then please correct me if im wrong, normal mirrors, no tranny temp guage, other than that what else, what about gears, hitch work etc.
Technically there's no such thing as a regular tow package. Just a Titan or a Titan with the big tow package.
The big tow package give you
# Class IV receiver hitch
# Additional 7-pin wiring harness plug
# Trailer brake controller pre-wiring under instrument panel
# Heavy-duty battery (710 CCA)
# Lower final gear ratio (3.36:1)
# Extendable tow mirrors (N/A on XE)
# Increased tow capacity
# Front tow hooks
Towing capacity XE, SE, LE
Without Tow Package
4x2 6,500 7,400 N/A 7,200
4x4 6,500 7,400 7,200 7,200
With Tow Package
4x2 9,500 9,500 N/A 9,200
4x4 9,400 9,400 9,300 9,200
If you can get the big tow package as it's only $450 as a package.($400 for me in 05)

Dumbo Ears
Gears -
Hitch - a big boy hitch
Tranny Temp Guage
I don't know what just plain "Tow" is.

my guess would be that if the dealer sees a hitch receiver on the truck, they consider that a "tow package".....I remember seeing some other posts on here that mentioned it happening to others.....but we know better!

OK the truck i looked at today sound identical to that description, on my 2006 titan the sticker said BIG TOW, this just says tow package which has me thinking its not what im looking for. i just need to make sure im getting the right truck since i tow 8000lbs regularly, i would hate to get the wrong truck due to me reading the tag wrong

I have an 05 LE with big tow, but i have reg mirrors. Is it an option to get the reg mirrors instead of the dumbo ones? I have the tow mode button under the radio, but no temp gauge. Do i just have the reg tow mode?

If you don't have the big tow mirrors or the temp gauge you do not have the big tow package. ALL Titan have the tow mode button.
When looking at the window sticker, see where the "tow package" is listed. If it's to the right it's usually a "dealer added" option.

Early on the package name may have been "Big Tow", but that was before my time. In the '07 brochure it is simply referred to as the "Tow Package". Around the Titan forums we simply call it the "Big Tow" package. Why? Beats me. It's kind of like calling a water heater the hot water heater.
Everything baseballfanz said is correct (just confirming here, not that he needs my help). Oddly enough the tow capacties for '08 haven't changed except for maybe 100 lbs less for the long bed version.

I beg to differ, in my '08 it was still called the "Big Tow" package.
However, the '09s have the "Max Utility package" which will combine the "Big Tow and the Utility Bed package" according to the dealer booklet I read.

Where did you see "Big Tow"? I don't see that on the Nissan web site for the Titan or in the '07 brochure. I looked before my original posting just to make sure.
If it was on a window sticker then it could be that the dealer is referring to it that way. I thought the dealer could print their own sticker.

Re: tow vs big tow
I have an '05 XE w/out tow package, yet I have tow hooks in the front. I thought all Titans had tow hooks. (?)
