Titan behind the rv?

Can I tow my Titan behind my rv? The rv tow rating is 10k. My Titan is 4wd, if that matters. I dont have an owners manual and cannot find an answer online. I appreciate any thoughts.

Re: Titan behind the rv?

Nope. Here's what the manual has to say about it:
Never tow automatic transmission
models with the rear wheels on the
ground or four wheels on the ground
(forward or backward), as this may
cause serious and expensive damage to
the transmission. If it is necessary to
tow the vehicle with the front wheels
raised always use towing dollies under
the rear wheels.

This was taken from the 2007 Nissan Titan Owner's Guide.

Re: Titan behind the rv?

As per my manual a 4X4 must be towed on a trailer. No wheels on the ground.

Re: Titan behind the rv?

I have seen a Hummer H2 flat towed behind a large coach, but maybe the Hummer's transfer case has a neutral.

Re: Titan behind the rv?

I'm not sure how the Titan and Frontier differ...other than the obvious, but a friend bought a Frontier over all other small trucks because it was the only 4X4 able to be towed behind his Class A motor home safely. This was according to all his investigating and talks with the dealership. He towed that truck thousands of miles with no problems.

Just because they towed it that way doesn't mean it was a smart thing to do. It may do fine, but it may cause problems. My uncle had a honda accord, and he brought it in to the dealer for some work. They noticed the rv hitch on the front of his car and voided his warranty. So he sold it and bought a saturn, as far as I know saturn is the only one that will warranty a car that has been towed with its drive wheels on the ground.

You're probably right, ruining the tranny might not concern you if you can afford to pull a $55k Hummer behind a $500k coach.

Why flat tow a front wheel drive when you can use a dolly?

Convenience. It's much easier to drive up and hook up than it is to put the car on the dolly and strap it down.

wise move, recall reading in manual about front axle bearing and seal damage as well. Try searching ebay for truck manual or try dealership for one. Many things in there you gonna want to know about truck.

Re: Titan behind the rv?

This is why when they tow tractor trailers they remove the drive shaft so there is no damage to the transmission. If the wouldn't damage is done because none of the pumps or anything are running in it. Even leaving it in nuetral will do damage.

Re: Titan behind the rv?

Not sure if anyone makes it for the Titan, but I know there is a product sold for towing flat. Some kind of Quick Drive Shaft Disconnect. You could also look into a auxilary transmission pump. Besides rolling under each time, a full trailer is the only option I could say for sure would work. And I would check that rating on the RV again. I am sure you are talking about a Class A. Most are only good for 5000lbs or so of dead weight towing. Don't just go by what the hitch says. Hope this helps.

check out rv.net as well. Great source for all things RV'ing.

Like Quartz said it is MUCH easier jut to hook up the hitch, than to have a tow dolly and drive up on.

You mean to tell us that someone dragged that truck in park so far that it wore off the tire and that much of the rim?....and nobody was honking and pointing?....LMAO!
