AC Fan Recall and Brake question....

So I bring my 2005 LE into the dealership for the AC fan recall and I go and pick it up and it says on the work order - "Titan Cond. Fan Recall - Inspection only - All good". I was assuming they were install a few new parts - am I incorrect?

Secondly, they said I have 15-20% on my brakes (truck has 48K) on them so thats probably right. They want $340 for the front brakes and $305 for the rears....sound reasonable?

Thanks

Re: AC Fan Recall and Brake question....

Mine goes in moday for this recall. Im under the inpression there is parts being replaced, but maybe not. as for your brake question, sounds pretty reasonable. Im a service advisor at a jeep dealership. our pad/rotor kits are $220+ 1.2-1.5hrs labor which comes out to $330-370.

Re: AC Fan Recall and Brake question....

depends what type of motor you have, if it is not the type fan motor in the recall then there is nothing to do, but note it was inspected.

I don't think so...If the fan is making noise from vibration, there is a "kit" to add to the fan mounts...
We are talking about the external fan in front of the radiator, correct?

Re: AC Fan Recall and Brake question....

The condenser fan recall is for titan which had the fan plug wired in reverse order. The dealership will inspect the fan and if it is spinning in the wrong direction they will replace it with a complete new unit. Be aware the new fan is loud. Sounds like a house air conditioning unit running but it keeps temps down in traffic.

I never received a letter from Nissan. But, I just had mine in for an oil change and they asked me to schedule a visit to address the recall. The tech told me the issue is a wiring harness associated with the electric fan. Apparently, some are frying...

They said it is classified as a "safety recall." But it's probably not a big deal.

That is totally incorrect on the reason for the recall, here is the bulletin NTB08-068b. I tried to post it here but it is too large a file for the upload. The reason is the entrance for the wires is allowing water to invade the motor causing corrosion and potential fire. There is a test in the procedure to check the fan speed but that is not a spin backwards issue, read the bulletin first then you will know what it is all about rather than the hearsay of others. This is a copy of the reason from the bulletin, and nothing about a reverse wire:

INTRODUCTION
Nissan is conducting a Voluntary Recall Campaign on certain Model Year 2004, 2005, and
2006 Nissan Titan and Armada vehicles:
• All vehicles manufactured from March 17, 2005 to August 21, 2006 are subject to
this campaign.
• Model Year 2004 vehicles and Model Year 2005 vehicles manufactured before
March 17, 2005 are included only if the air conditioning condenser fan was replaced
after the vehicle was originally purchased using one of the affected replacement
parts.
The air conditioning condenser fan motor in the subject vehicles was manufactured out of
specification allowing for excessive water intrusion and inadequate drainage of moisture. If
enough moisture accumulates in the motor, corrosion may occur, leading to increased
temperature in the motor. Because of the motor’s unique structure, this increased
temperature could melt its wiring insulation and other plastic components and ultimately
result in a fire. To correct the issue, Nissan will inspect, and as needed, install a
thermal protector kit on the air conditioning condenser fan at no charge for parts or
labor.
Also, to ensure continued customer satisfaction with the air conditioning system in these
vehicles, the condenser fan motor will be tested for excessive friction. If necessary, the
motor will be replaced with a new one at no charge for parts or labor. (If a new motor is
installed, the protector kit is not needed.)
