Bumper Removal

Can anyone tell me if removing the front bumper is difficult. Not the grille but the lower bumper that is in the center. The chrome portion (in some cases).

I've replaced one of the corner plastics on the front but never removed the entire bumper itself. All of the bolts are easy to find so it can't be too difficult. What happened?...why are you removing it?

Well, either you hit something last night or the mod bug bit you in your sleep. Which is it? Sorry VShortt, haven't had it off either.

I'm pretty sure that you can't just do the chrome portion. I believe that those of use who have the chrome have a solid metal bumper with the plastic/fiberglass ends. But the XE bumpers are solid plastic/fiberglass. I was checking out CJR02's this weekend and the entire facade is 1 solid piece.

All that said... I have no idea how to remove the dang thing. Do you have a copy of the service manual?

Or not enough. The reason is because I am contemplating putting it up for trade for a painted center section. I am going to be getting a new chrome grille (upper and lower) and I think that its just too much. I like all of the chrome inserts being surrounded by painted parts. It just makes a nice look.

No problem. Someone will offer up ideas. In the meantime, I have been bitten by the bug. Good call.

Hey vshortt, if you decide to trade for the painted bumper I'd like to trade with you again. If we trade a few more parts we'll have to share titles.

Considering a took my grille and bumper off in the dark and replaced the bumper and replaced the grille with a petzel on my head in about 1 hour it is not hard at all, actually, a little laughable I thought. If I recall its 10 bolts on the bumper total, two inside each wheel well on the support bar, four underneath the bumper (two on the left and two on the right) and four more on top of thge bumper (2 aside again) it is very straightforward. You need two sizes of sockets, cant remember which. Sooooo easy though. Go for it.

I did it last week. Like soanso said, It's easy just get some help to lift it off so you don't scratch it up. 6 bolts and 4 nuts and it's off. I already had my tow hooks off, if you have them you may need them off to reach the two bolts in the tow hook hole in the bumper.

Keep in mind that you can't simply swap out the chrome center section, that metal portion runs the entire width of the bumper. It also uses differerent brackets and several other parts that it does not share in common with the XE bumper.
