Wiring Harness - Non-Tow Package

Hey,

Does anyone know if the wiring harness is already in place on the trucks without the Tow package? I understand the 7 point plug won't be installed, but did they by chance run the harness?

Also, does anyone know if there is a kit available to install this yourself. My soon to be truck will not have the TOW package, but I might need to pull an occassional trailer.

Thanks in advance!

Harness...

The new Nissan 04 Titan Accessory catalog shows the following under the Receiver Hitch:

"7-pin connector mounted to the outside of receiver hitch for easy connection to trailer wiring (all Titans are pre-wired for Receiver Hitch)."

The wiring is bundled inside the rear bumper, left of center. Looks like an easy job.

The harness should come with the factory hitch. The brake controller harness is under the dash.

I run the Prodigy by Techonsha (SP). Easy to install and set-up.

If You Dont Have The Tow Package,it Will Not Have The Plug Under The Dash For Electric Brakes. I No Because I Serched The Scymatic And Had To Hard Wire It Myself. The Other Models Have The Plug Connector Under The Dash.

make sure you pick up the seven pin adapter from the dealer they are about 12 bucks.. but you have to also purchase the two relays if you dont get the nissan harness.. they will run you close to 40

I still don't understand. If I want to tow a small flatbed trailer for quads w/ one blinker/brake combo light at each rear corner do I need the relays? also, most trailers have a four pin harness, so I will need the seven-pin to four-pin harness adapter or 'pigtail" right?

I did not have the tow package on my 01/04 built CC 4x4 and although it did not come with the pigtail for the trailer brake wiring, it is prewired for it, I just have to buy the pigtail to plug in from Nissan. I wonder if they changed this later, when was yours built?

You will need the relays to have driving lights, otherwise no. The brake lights and blinkers work without the relays, or at least they did for me. Since I was towing a boat the driving lights were mandatory for me so the relays were also a necessity.

Check for the relays before ordering. My truck already had them installed so I saved the money. Everyone said the relays were only there if you had the big tow package but I've heard from others that their trucks had them also.

And yes you will need the adapter for the wiring harness. They are pretty cheap. I think mine was about $10.

Tow-o-matic

The factory hitch is the best built IMHO. It can be had from one of the supporting vendors for about 194 dollars. I have heard that this includes the plug and two relays to make your lights work. So it is economical considering it has all the bits and pieces you will need.

If you have commited to an aftermarkey hitch, Hopkins Manufacturing makes a plug and play wiring kit that is cool. www.trailerwiring.com. It has a four pin flat built into a either six or seven pin round recepticle.

There are some posts with pics in the parts section (trailer wiring blues). I know, I put some there!

Do not forget to change your differential oil to synthetic before towing any heavy loads. Good luck.
