Navigation system.

Who has one? I am thinking of getting one more for bragging right than anyting. It would be nice to have! What do you guys think? Who has one? Is it nice/nice to use? Is it worth the extra $$?

Don't have it. Think about how many days over the next 5 years that you will use it. Probably 2 days a year. 10 total. On those ten days, take with a 5 dollar map. Then spend the rest of the money that you would have spent on the Navigation system, and get a really good dinner for yourself, or something else.

I did not get one on the Titan but I have one in my 540i. They are a neat toy. When in an unfamiliar area they are priceless, just plug in the location and it points you at every turn. Downside is updating the discs which I do every 2 years. If you travel to new places quite a bit, get one. If you know where your going (per se) then save the dough. My wife takes my BMW every Saturday morning to go to garage sales just because of the Nav. HA!

Thumbs up

I do have the navigation system and am impressed with it's performance so far. I have only had the truck since Saturday but I've used GPS in my vehicle before. The Nissan Navigation system is nicer than what I had because you can plug in your destination on the fly. Everything you need to run the navigation is in the vehicle. I had a GPS unit that could attach to my palm pilot and I had to program each route I wanted to drive into the palm from my PC.

The system in the Titan gives you turn-by-turn directions, which can be voice-guided if you choose. The bird's eye map view is really neat and you can switch to a plan view mode too. One of the coolest features that I have found so far is the ability to program a quick stop while on a currently running route. If your in the car in an unfamiliar area with the family and you need to find an ATM, restaurant, hotel, rest area, etc., you just hit a couple of buttons and the systems gives you the 5 nearest choices, directions to them, and distance.

It appears to be very programmable giving you the ability to avoid certain types of roads that you don't want to be on, different areas of town that you know are normally congested, and stuff like that.

I am in the military and have found GPS really useful after a move to a new area. Especially when looking for housing. Whenever we would see an ad for a house for rent or an apartment complex, we would simply punch in the address and have no problem finding it. The Nissan navigation system will give you the same ability.

In addition to the navigation you have the information center which will give you two trip information screens (time elapsed, distance, and average speed), a gas mileage screen including a bar graph which depicts your real-time mileage (you can see it go up and down as you come on and off the gas pedal), maintenance info, and tire pressure readings.

I'm sure there's a few more features that I haven't gotten too. To sum up, no, it's not the most necessary thing to have. Us guys pride ourselves in being able to find our way around anywhere with only our natural sense of direction. But, if you have the money to spend, I think it's a worthwhile addition. I'm glad I got it. It will certainly help out when we're moving to another part of the country, which we will do quite often.

If you have any more specific questions let me know. I'll be more than happy to help.

Ken

We have the nav system ordered with our truck. I think this will come in very handy. I am self emplyed and I think it will be very helpful for bidding jobs and vacations etc... Plus it shows you mpg, tire rotation, radio and heater info. etc... Nice option!

We have one in our Odyssey and it has been really handy when traveling to new areas and has more than paid for itself in my mind, especially when getting lost in the middle of the night. Is it a must have, no, but a really nice to have though. I just ordered my Titan today with a Nav system. It's really handy in finding that certain place when in unfamilair areas (like a Baskin Robbins when the kids need a break!).

My wife has it in her Maxima, and I was going to get it in the Titan, but you have to get the LE. I am not into leather, well sometimes LOL

Instead I purchased the Magellan 500 which is the same program and a touch screen. It is only 800, and you can remove it when you might damage the vid screen.

My wife refers to it as baby, or the marriage counselor. I no longer blame her when we end up in the wrong place or don't hit the correct exit.

paper (or plastic) maps, compus, and altimeter

nawwww, nice gadget, but just get a GPS, 'CB' Radio, DVD players
and save the rest of the money you'll still have on a winch

a built in altimeter would be cool

I've got it in my truck and I love it. I don't think it would be all that necessary if you lived in a small town and rarely did much traveling, but living in Atlanta it's come in real handy numerous times.

I got mine because my wife and I like to take long unplanned drives on the weekends. We just get in the car a drive until we decide to stop somewhere and eat, shop, play, whatever. We also plan on a few long distance trips (Chicago to Tampa, Chicago to Syracuse, Chicago to Portland, OR) in the next year. Having the ability to get information about the nearest places to eat, get gas, do some banking, shop, etc is well worth the price of admission.

That and the fact that I love toys and this is the coolest toy I was able to get made it easier to decide.

Best reason to get the Nav. is that the backup sensor comes with it. As I understand it, you don't get the backup sonar unless you get the Nav.

Didn't get it

I passed on the Nav system. My wife has one in her Maxima and she only uses it once in a great while...and she's a Realtor. I figured if someone like her, who drives all over hell and back doesn't use it much, it's not likely that someone like me would use it at all.

I think it would be a nice thing to have if you were visiting an unfamiliar city, but I pretty much hang out in Colorado so the price was a little steep for my purposes.

Re: Navigation system.

I'm planning to by this neat car soon. It is the 2006 Nissan Titan LE. I would like to know whether the monitor pictured below is a navigation system or a dvd player. Can someone enlighten me? It has orange lines and letters on black background.

Re: Navigation system.

That's the nav screen. The navigation unit is under the passenger seat (does not play DVD movies) The DVD player for movies if equipped is inside the center console. From the factory the nav screen does not play movies but there are after market AV Switch that will allow it to do so.

Re: Navigation system.

Are you sure? The auto trader add only lists dvd as additional feature and no mention of nav. That's why I was confused. But I'm sure happy that it is nav, afterall I'll be spending big $$ on it.
