Titan Acceleration?

This may be normal for this engine but I thought I would ask. It seems from a standing takeoff that the engine just seems held back until around 4,000 rpm then it just takes off. The only thing to compare it to is turbo lag without a turbo. Is this just the way the powerband is on this engine or is it something I should look at?

It runs fine and shifts nice but and after first it just accelerates nice. I do not have the big tow or offroad package so maybe it is the higher gearing?

Yup, You are just getting closer to your HP peak! That is also around where
your hp and torque curves meet.

Thanks alot. I was just worried because there is alot of raves about the acceleration and I have never heard it mentioned about the lag feeling until the rpms are up. After that though it does scream

That sounds kinda strange to me. The first Titan I drove was a King Cab XE that was as stripped as the Titan comes. It had the higher gearing in the rearend and jumped right off the line! In fact the chirping tires is what showed me that this truck was different that the previous 4 I had driven.

It could also be your perception. The first truck I drove was the Hemi Ram. I wasn't impressed with it at all, knowing it was supposed to be 345 hp. I drove all the other after and drove another Ram. The second one I drove did feel powerful (although still second to the Titan). So either something was wrong with the first one or after driving the other trucks, I had something to compare it to.

Drive the others too, now that you have had a taste of the Titan. You may begin to feel it more once you have seen what the others do when you step on it.

If you have a accelleration lag, have it checked because in no way is there a problem with the accelleration in the titan, hell mine knocks anything not tied down to the floor when i romp on her, I traded in a diesel for her because of the turbo lag !!!!!

Yea I should go test drive some. The first and only test drive I did was in an off-road 2wd and I did not know there was a difference in gearing before I bought mine. Off the start I can burn the tires loose (sometimes) but then it seems to flatten a little (like it is geared too high) then at 4,000 rpm or so it like bucks forward then it is fine through the rest of the gears. Strange power curve to me. I was just wondering if anyone else felt the same before the 4,000 rpm mark or if I was expecting too much

i think your right it does kinda take off at 4000 seems to hit like a power band and when it does i can definately feel what you are describing

Re: Titan Acceleration?

with this wierd lag in first gear, its a wonder how the titan ever won so many shoot outs in all the truck magazines?

i raced my brothers 5.3 silverado 4x4 and could barely manage 1/4 car length. i feel like i need to put a stopper under the throttle so i can step all the way without getting into this strange wot programming nissan has!

Re: Titan Acceleration?

does the 2* timing advance help any? not just with over all power, but this strange three level power band.
1. good thru 2500
2. off till 4500
3. on again

seems we should have much faster trucks

Re: Titan Acceleration?

Ive also noticed the lag your talking about. Today I tried messing around with using the manual gear shifts, and It seems when I put the Titan in first and gun it, it seems to accelerate faster and I can spin the tires easier. Although Ive heard most people who go to the track get better times just keeping it in drive and punching it?

Re: Titan Acceleration?

Mine operates in the lag fashion also.....

Anytime you "push" the throttle to the floor it feels powerless and will not really take off from still, [b]but[b] if you slam it on the floor taking less than a second to do it, it will squal through first like it means business. Thats my observation anyway.
