Junk in my "trunk"

I am going to be getting my bed sprayed and I wanted to remove the side caps and go over the rail. In order to do that and get the tonneau to sit right I am going to have to take the tail gate cap off and have it sprayed also. I had my Fronty this way and liked the look.

Does anyone know.... If I remove the cap are there any holes etc under it on the tailgate itself (I'm talking about the area that would be the top when closed). Because the poly tailgate cover on the Fronty was all one piece the tailgate was nicely finished under it.

Re: Junk in my "trunk"

Take a look at these pics of the back side of the tailgate guard and bedrail caps... and then decide if there's a crapload of holes there or not....

Re: Junk in my "trunk"

Nope... When taking them off, you're gonna lose about 1/3 to 1/2 of the tabs.... It's a given...

Re: Junk in my "trunk"

The fact remains... If you're going to line the bedrail tops and top of the tailgate, you need do nothing more than fill the holes with a little caulking and line over that.

When I had my hitch Line-X'd, they filled and "smoothed" out all the holes, joints, welds, etc. with caulking and sprayed it. It looks absolutely awesome, and the texture is very forgiving with minor surface imperfections. Now, you'd want to have the caulking or filler as smooth as possible, i.e. not have lumps or bumps sticking up... but it can still be done.....
