If one were to buy an '08 or '09 SE / LE could you buy the extra parts needed to convert it to the Pro4x? Do the mounting points exist for the skid plates on all models? The shocks and seats wouldn't be a big deal if I upgraded them or not. What else may I be missing.
The reason I ask is 1.) I don't like the painted front and rear bumpers on the PRO-4x and 2.) There is an '08 LE for sale locally here. I think I could get a good deal on it, since it has been sitting so long.
you are missing the 4.10 gears but, I think it would be cheaper to get a pro 4x and just change the bumpers and grill..
3.36 we dont have 4.10s our gears are the same as regular 4x4. Youd need to change out the whole rearend if you want a true pro-4x due to the locking diff, and that would mean getting the electronic guts out of a pro-4x into your Le/Se

Buy a True-Trac It's a better rear end anyway. You can Mount the skid plate and if you buy an LE with the tow or offroad package you will have the same gears trans temp etc.
Is the front bumper on the pro4 painted plastic like the Xe or metal?

Misread, thought he said 07... might as well get the pro4 and override that locker so you can use it outside of 4Lo... the titans VKFiddy six is capable of a mean one tire fire though...
The only real difference between the two are the "rancho" shocks , painted bumpers, interior, and the sticker . I say get the LE and buy the shocks off one of these sites for the different ride height and the sticker if that is what you really want. Other than that, you really aren't missing so much.

most importantly locking diff, especially since 2008+ dont have a trutrac readily available yet.

Don't forget the white faced gauges is also supposedly exclusive to the Pro4X. I think that all the other differences were covered. If you don't need/desire/want any of these things then just get the LE and put some better suspension components under it and call it yours. The only reason I bought a Pro4X is that I wanted the painted bumpers and stuff with the white faced gauges and rear locker. The Rancho shocks are just a gimmick really. ooh ooh It has Rancho Shocks!!! Awesome!! I plan on changing those when I have the funds to do it.

I basically bought mine for the interior. I needed 4x4 to drive ungroomed sections of beach/coastline to get to where I typically surf/fish. I have never had the E-locker on any other vehicle except this one and I haven't felt the need to even engage mine except for a couple of times when trying to figure out exactly how it works. Even without the E-locker engaged the truck's 4 lo system pulls effortlessly thorugh some of the deepest sand I have driven through. As for mud, I will let you know when flood/dove season rolls around.
I had an 04 LE off road which I replaced with an 08 LE. I did not like the painted front and the black covered mirrors on the 08 Pro. I ended up taking the skid plates off of my 04 and put them on my 08 and everything fits like a glove (3 skid plates). The rear end ratio will be the same if you have the Big tow on the LE but you will be missing the locker. Not important to me because I don't do any off roading with my Titan anyhow (i take my 97 pathfinder not my $30,000+ Titan to get it scratched and beat up) not to mention I have the CC long bed which is few feet longer than a boeing 747 and requires the width of the State of Kansas to turn around. The Rancho shocks on my 04 were so so and I replaced them with belistin shocks. So I would go with an LE and look for the skid plates on Ebay or Craiglist etc. The True Track is the way to go if you do some major off roading though not sure they have it for the 08 which have a different diff than earlier year. Either way you go you can't go wrong. I loved both my 04 and 08. Best of luck.
