Todays short trek to the mountains...

Well, we took a short trek up to the mountains in the Idyllwild area of California. There was a little bit of snow on the ground but the roads were cleared. We forgot our digital and had to rely on an old point and shoot 35mm. I can't wait till momma replaces my digital!

This is one of the reasons we love living here. 30 miles to the snow or 45 miles to Big Bear for the snow or Lake Arrowhead. 40 Mins to the beach. We live in the 'high desert' area but Glamis isn't too far.

Chris, looks like a lot of fun. I love living in AZ but your location does make me a bit jealous...nearly in between San Diego and Anaheim, near Temecula for some pretty good wine, and like you said Big Bear is close to really enjoy the outdoors. How is the job market and housing costs in your area? I assume the cost of living is far more reasonable than some locations west of you.

Karl,

We actually moved 'up here' just over a year ago. Sold a condo in San Diego (Santee specifically) that went for more than the 4Br, 3Ba home we are in now! LOL

Temecula has kinda exploded house price wise, hence thats why we chose Hemet. It's also a little quieter up here with all the retiree's and Snowbirds.

I don't think we are quite as inexpensive as say the Pheonix/Mesa area over in AZ but I don't think we are far off. Our place is 2k sq ft and 12 years old. We paid $225k for it.

Jobs are hit and miss depending upon what field your in. Both me and my wife drive 80 miles to San Diego everyday for work. I was kinda lucky that my transition to the civilian world was made easier by being offered a job at my last duty station to come back as a Govvie Civilian type. I am a Tech Specialist and my start pay was matched to what I was making as a E-7 in the Navy with allowances. So, it was just a change of clothes after waiting at home for 2 months on terminal leave

That's not bad at all Chris, we're on the northwest side of the valley and paid the same price for a 4br+den/2bth/pool. You would be surprised at how much housing costs in the Phx metro area nowaday's. 80 miles to work...WOW! Now that is a commute. How long does is take you to get to and from work?

1.5 hours each way if we leave 'on-time'. 15 mins too late and its 2 hours each way. We don't mind it too much though as we normally carpool together during most of the week and it gives us a chance to unwind.

I see my wife changing jobs eventually though to somewhere up this way...it will be less money for her, but at the same time letting her enjoy our home a little more and less stress on her - She can spoil me then....ROFL
