Dimensions of the sliding toolbox?

I was wondering if anybody knew the approx dimensions of the optional toolbox that works with the utility bed. I am most curious about the depth of the box since all the pictures I've seen (brochure) have shadows and that makes it hard to judge.

Sorry if this has be asked before, but I couldn't find it.

Thanks
Mike

I believe i read somewhere that there's 6 inches of clearance between the tool box bottom and the bed floor so that you can still haul lumber, drywall, etc.

Mike, it's about 2 feet deep and has a lot of storage capacity. The list of stuff I keep in mine reads like a short novel.

I was at the Pittsburgh Auto Show and the Nissan spokesperson said that the 2nd generation of the toolbox would be level with the top of the bed.

That's great...did he say when he thought they may be out. Although I have the current style, I would prefer a model that sits level with the top of the bed.

Truck box

Does anyone know if you can open the truck box from the sides. Or is the only latch on the back?

You open it from the driver's side. It's a push button lock and the lid open's nice and easy becuase of the hydraulic hinges. The handle on the back is to assist in pulling it towards the tailgate.

I got it from my local Nissan parts department for $449.00 which seems to be a better price than most are charging. They gave me a 10-15% discount if I remember correctly. You may also want to check with a newer user on this forum who runs a Nissan parts website (Titanparts1).

Thanks Karl! Can you confirm that there are 6" from the bottom of the box to the bed? Is putting it in and taking it off of the channels a one man job?

That's correct. You can do it alone (I did) but it's certainly easier with two people. If you're alone just try to put something underneath one side to prop it up with so you can put it in the rails.

Karl, does the box attached securely enough to the track to prevent theft?

Yes it does. On the inside it has two turn knobs that tighten on the sides as well as a sliding latch system in the back of the box. On the outside, it's a push botton keyed lock release mechanism. It's a very nice setup. My neighbor owns a general contracting business and he was very impressed with the build quality and setup.

Kind of hard to describe but if you're interested Peoria Nissan has a display in their parts department.
