raced a duramax 2500 today

i was on my way home from work, i was sitting at a red light and a lifted duramax( an 05 or 06) pulled up in the lane next to me. i wasn't sure if he was down or not, but i'm always down for some stop light to stop light racing. anyway the light turns green and i hesitate a little to see what he's gonna do and i hear him stomp on it so i nailed it. he didn't have a chance, all i saw was his huge cloud of nasty balck smoke in my mirrior. i stayed on it untill about 70 or 80 mph and i was probably 4 or 5 truck lenghts in front of him. i love blowin the doors off of turbo diesels, my favorite

i almost got to race a new i force tundra the other day too. the guy pulls up next to me and ask me if i wanted to run um. i said yes without hesitation, i think my awnser suprised him cause then he wanted to know if i was stock. i say no then as quick as he wanted to race now he doesn't, man i should of said my truck was stock

Careful with them Diesels, a simple tuner or chip and they will suck your doors off.

Re: raced a duramax 2500 today

Maybe...I've seen em with tuners, intake and exhaust still in mid to high 14's...obviously depending which ones. I'm thinking off a couple Dodge Turbo Diesels at the track. But with that said, I did see a lifted (at least 6-8 inches) Chevy on big ole tires running mid 12's spinning for the first 60'....Diesels can be monstors, but their so dang heavy

Yeah, I found out the hard way on that one......

I should have known when I pulled up next to him (04-07 Duramax) and saw his gauge cluster running down his A-pillar and a very high whistle on his turbo at idle, that something wasn't right.....

I never back down from a challenge, but man, it wasn't even a race!

No worries though, he was cool about the whole thing when I pulled up to him at the next light.

Re: raced a duramax 2500 today

I worked on turbo diesel HUMMER's when I was in the Army, not quite a duramax, but let me tell you, the purpose of the turbo diesel is to get more power to push something very ****ing heavy. Now a days diesels are built a lot different obviously. but diesel is still diesel and it takes a bit to get them fired up. I am not surprised that the Titan smashed him. I want to say that if went on for distance the duramax would have eventually flown by. Once that big turbo gets going and the diesel gets a burning, watch out. Same thing for the HUMMER (not to mention it was up armored) but still once it got going it was quite the rocket. By the sound of the black smoke you saw, I would also say he needs some tuning.

Re: raced a duramax 2500 today

by the black smoke i figured he had a tuner. i saw something on his dash or lower winshield dont know what it was, could of been a # of things. but i know all the turbo diesels i've seen a the track that run good blow tons of black smoke. but i don't know, just my guess. and i know they can be very fast but so can gas motors, i just don't like diesels..

Re: raced a duramax 2500 today

The black smoke was unburnt fuel I believe, usually a GOOD tune can take care of that

I can almost guarantee it wasnt tuned, even a bullydog will give them 100+ HP. I personally love diesels and wish the Titan had a Turbo Diesel option

LOL, yeah Peyton's Titan called me a moron. Well, when he dropped the camera down, I was almost facing back toward him. I got a little too sideways and he thought maybe I got carried away lol. I told him no name calling for the Sept Daytona meet burnout. I figured that was an appropriate place to drive like that being we were right across the street from the Daytona 500 haha. The shackles are noticeable. They look good. I only got about 7/8"-1" out of them, but I also installed Bilstein 5100's at the same time which I think lifted it up .25". It looks A LOT better, but still not enough for me.

i dont know much about diesels besides they stink and everyone thinks there so badass. all i do know is the faster they are the more black smoke they blow, from seeing them at the drag strip.

Not necessarily true. A good tune can take care of all of the unburnt fuel. If only we could get a Titan with a cummins turbo diesel. Then install a tuner, 100 horse injectors, intake, and exhaust it would be awesome. *wakes up from dream* lol

yeah that would be cool, but personaly i would rather have a gas motor any day. now if i just had a turbo on my truck that would be sweet.

Why? yeah gas motors have their benefits but diesels have more IMO. Better fuel mileage, more torque, and a longer life. Also gas is limited by its octane but for the most part the only thing limiting a diesel motor is the amount of air and fuel you can get. Modern diesels are superior IMO.
