ac stuck on high

I have a 05 titan LE with the variable speed fan control and its stuck on high. Is there any quick possible fix before I have to take it in.

Re: ac stuck on high

You will probably have to replace the entire control panel.

Easy to do yourself.

Re: ac stuck on high

there are other threads going on the fan stuck on high. I think its the resistor for the blower, but i have never had this issue on my titan, only on my previous car which was a honda accord.

Re: ac stuck on high

If you aren't under warranty, I wiuld try the resistor first. It's a much less $$$ part. I had one replaced under warranty last year and it cured the problem.

Also, someone posted quite a while back about part of the knob breaking internally. They had a fix for that without buying the whole control module. Try a search for that.

Engine - Nismo CAI & headers, Magnaflow high-flow cats, Magnaflow catback, UpRev
Suspension - F/R swaybars, Bilsteins, PRG endlinks & Minilift
Brakes - PowerSlot rotors and Hawk brake pads
Other - Nismo gauge face, Autometer Trans, Diff & Coolant gauges, Mag Hytec diff cover, PML transmission pan, etc

Re: ac stuck on high

It's in another thread, but you can get a multi-meter and test the resistor. It is a plug under the glove box near the fan motor. I think it the second from the left of four wires. It should read 0 V when the fan is off and then go up to 5 V on max. If it does that it's the resistor. If not, you likely need to change the whole panel.

Resistor is about $60.00
Control Panel about $350.00

Someone else metnioned that when the resitor goes the blower motor is about to go out. I changed the resistor on mine after it did the same thing about two weeks ago....it just started intermittently blowing only on high again, so I think I'm going to change the fan this weekend...which is why I'm back here.

Re: ac stuck on high

The fan control module now has a different heat sink to provide better cooling.

Re: ac stuck on high

It looks like nobody has posted a real answer since 2009, but if there's still people out there looking for an answer like I was, this is the solution:

As I was told by a Nissan Tech, this is what they call the VBC or Varible Blower Controller (nissan part number 27151-ZT00A) and it costs $60 bucks (compared to replacing the entire panel for $350) at the dealer. In order to replace it, you have to take the glove box out, but this is pretty simple. Then all you need is a socket wrench and after replacing it with the new part, everything works as before.

Below is a link on how to remove the glove box.

Thanks for the part number and good information. Paid Nissan to do it the last time it went out because didn't know about the greatness of this forum yet! First Nissan told me it was the control unit/sending unit or some such and it was going to cost me 500 to fix it. Lucky for me I didn't have the 500 to drop at that time because when I did bring it back another mechanic laughed and said sorry someone told me that and knew right away that is was the VBC!

Re: ac stuck on high

Replaced the VBC on my 05 two years ago,.. right after I bought it,,... with the new updated model,... and it's out again,... one of the notorious problems Titans have,... and Nissan will never acknowledge.

Re: ac stuck on high

Thanks Huehueteco for the info. My entire heater/ac unit had to be replaced when still under warranty. Was hoping it didn't need another one now that it's not under warranty anymore. Will buy VBC today and give it a try.
