Dash rattle fix.

I am on my second titan, the first one was an '04 and I now have an '08. There was a dash rattle on the first truck that drove me nuts, I fixed it and now the new truck has the same rattle so I'm thinking most all titans have this rattle so I am posting the fix I used for both my trucks. First, remove the defroster vent cover from the dash ( I use a stiff putty knife to pop it off). Now the long thin part of the dash that runs between the defroster vent and the windshield is what's rattling, if you tap along that piece you can feel it hitting the metal cowling underneath in some spots. What I did was take some thick wheather strip foam pieces and stick them between the dash and cowling until I could tap on the dash pretty hard and not hear or feel it hitting the metal underneath. Now reinstall the vent cover and your good to go, no more rattle, it worked on my '04 and my '08.

Re: Dash rattle fix.

HavaTitan. Is this what you are talking about?

My dash has a rattle also. It started on my '05 CC SE just two months ago after four years and 48,000 miles. It occurred to me too that it might be a speedo cable because it evoked memories of the sound my 1995 GL1500 GoldWing's speedo cable made when it went bad. So, since we don't have speedo cables just what in hades can be rattling in there?? When I am sitting at idle there is no noise. It appears that it is vibration sensitive because I hear it at near 55 mph and above and when the pavement is super smooth it rattles less. It seems to come from under the dash between the right side of the instrument cluster visor and left edge of the dash speaker. When I hit it with my fist the rattle get a little worse. I have a good tech but I have put off having him look at it as he will have to tear the dash apart to fix it. I am going to ask him if he thinks it will be better for him to do the job at the Stealership or at his small garage shop.

Re: Dash rattle fix.

shakedown, you can do this very easily with a putty knife (or even a butter knife) and a little bit of thick foam. Just pop off the vent cover and stick the foam between the dash and metal cowling up by the windshield. The dash plastic sags very close to the metal cowling that any vibration will cause it to rattle. I will try to post some pic's later this week when I get some time.

Re: Dash rattle fix.

On my '04, I removed the defroster vent cover and tightened all of the bolts that secure the dash to the framing. Rattle hasn't been back since.

Re: Dash rattle fix.

Mine sounds like something hitting a cow bell. (insert gratuitous SNL sketch here)

Is that the sound others are hearing?

Mine doesn't sound like a little can of bb's but more of a "ting ting ting"...

Re: Dash rattle fix.

I had a noise coming from the dash. Put a piece of clear, thick, tape between the top of the instrument cluster and the dash and it went away. It had a sqeeky sound, so if anyone has that, it would be a good place to look
