Tailgate cables ?

I noticed earlier this evening that when my tailgate is open and there is nothing sitting on it, the right cable is taut while the left cable is loose. If I apply weight to the tailgate, then the left cable tightens up. I presume some tolerance is allowed and that the tension doesn't have to be exactly equal on both sides, but how much is too much?

No idea what the limit it, but mine tailgate does the same thing.
