4WD Light on dash

When you guys put your truck in 4x4 mode does your 4WD light light up along with the truck symbol showing the center diff and front diff lit? The truck symbol works for me but the 4WD light does not come on. The 4x4 function works fine, except for that light.

The 4WD light only comes on briefly when you turn your truck on. The only other time it lights up is when there's a problem with the 4WD system and that usually means a trip to the dealer. So don't worry, it's normal when it is NOT lit.

I thought that my manual said the 4WD light only came on when you went into 4-Lo? Am I mistaken?

Only the little diagram with all 4 tires lit is what lights up when in 4WD. And when in 4LO, the 4LO light is on. I think the 4WD is a trouble light only.

I better double check the manual because my past 4WD light comes on when I'm in 4x4 and the 4LO also comes on whenever I'm in 4LO, along with the 4WD light.

I just thought if the 4WD light comes on when we're in 4x4 mode, it would be more visible and a good reminder to turn it off.

BTW - anyone with the compass reading in the rear view mirror noticed that if you're driving in the snow or icy conditions and not in 4x4, the compass reading will flash the word "ICE", until you put it in 4x4??? I thought my eyes were playing trick on me until my wife and her god daughter confirmed that they were seeing it too. It doesn't flash "ICE" after I put it in 4x4 mode. I thought that was pretty interesting!!!

The mirror always flashes ICE as it gets down to about 35* or so. Maybe you've just noticed it coincedently as you were switching into 4WD...mine doesn't do it as I switch it into 4WD.
your truck has that little diagram of 4 wheels to show you're in 4WD. I don't think many others do that.

That's what I thought but when I was in Tahoe on Tuesday, when it was between 29 - 32, it didn't flash "ICE" at all and I thought it's because I was already in 4x4 all that time. Interesting and a very nice feature to have.

I have to check the 4LO light to see if it's working or not. I haven't tested that yet.

The 4X4 light shouldn't come on when in 4x4 only 4lo light when in 4lo. The 4X4 light should only come on when you first turn on the key, or if their is a problem with the 4X4 system.
