something MUST be wrong with mine!!!!

I've had my Armada since 21 Jan, i'm just about to hit the 1200 mile mark and to date the best i've gotten is 12.3 mpg.....YES 12.3 MILES PER GALLON, ONCE!!!
All my calculations have fallen into the low-to-mid 11mpg range.
We haven't been stomping on the gas, we haven't been racing, we've been keeping the rpm's below 4 grand..........i just don't get it.
NOW, i know this is an SUV and gas mileage ain't gonna be "great", but when most folks seem to be getting at a minimum 13 mpg, i figure something gotta be up with my ride. We've yet to put the thing on the highway so everything has been city driving....could that be the culprit? Can the dealer check to see if its running rich?

If yours is all city - Yup, that is the culprit!

Tsopps - Do you live in a cold climate area? if you do, winter gas, warm-up and low tire pressure could be contributing to your gas mileage. Where I am from, my Honda gets anywhere from 30 to 50% less mpg in the winter time.

If you don't live in a cold climate - get it checked!

My first two tanks I averaged about 17.5. It was highway travel only. Since then I've been averaging about 11.5 in town. I drive like an old man and forgot how to drive fast long ago. And I don't think cold weather is the problem here in Orlando. I have about 2500 miles on the beast so far, a 2wd SE kingcab. Hopefully the mileage will somewhat improve with time. Oil was swapped at 1500 miles.

My last vehicle was a Tundra and mileage was pretty bad for the first 5000 miles.

Thanks for the suggestions...its in the shop today having the rear middle set belt replaced. I will asked them to look into the excessive fuel usage.

Thanks

Hey guys, new owner here and a little MPG story for ya.

New truck 8 miles on it. Drove from Atlanta to Nashville average 18.7 MPG. Cruise control set at 75mphs. Drove to Louisville, Ky 16.25 mpg mostly 80 mph. I am hoping that I can nurse more MPG when the engine breaks in more. I will be going to Mobil 1 Oil after 7500 miles to gain the best. I have notice that in town I can almost watch the gas gauge drop when I racing around.

Next week going south to Navarre, FL expect to get the best MPG while driving on the flat highways south. I let ya know!

I also have not gone over 2000 rpm and keep it around 65 on the freeway. My driving is a combination of city and freeway, leaning towards more freeway driving. I have already done an oil change at 1000 miles. Any ideas?
I am on that same average and I have 1600 miles on it. What is going on?
XE 4x4.

What does winter gas have to do with mpg?
By the way those with anything but 15 mpg or more what brand of gas are you using and are you in cool or mild to warm climates?

Yes,we do live in a cold climate,NY,but that didn't bother any when we had our Silverado. We've gone through two tanks of gas and the best we've gotten is 13.1 mpg. With our Silverado we averaged 19 mpg.
I love this new Titan but hoping the gas milage will improve.

I also had a Sierra 5.3 before my Titan. It had 3.73 gears and was a Z71. My average mileage was about 16 mpg in town and some highway. Highway only it would get about 20. Right now the GM's seem to be the benchmark on fuel economy of the full size pickups. Part of that is because they weigh less. The engine seems to be very fuel efficient.

My Titan so far has averaged about 14.8 driving in the same situation that my Sierra was. My Titan only has 3700 miles so it is not completely broken in. My best on the highway so far is about 17. My Titan weighs 700# more than my Sierra did. My Titan also has comperable to 4.10 gears so it is lower geared than my Sierra. I'm still hoping to get better mileage. I find that theinitial throttle response on the Titan is so good that it is hard not to drive the truck harder. Hopefully I can grow out of that some. HA!

I was beginning to think I made a mistake when I mentioned 18.3, so I had the chance to check again yesterday. Fill up & right onto the turnpike ramp 290+ miles to destination averaging a 70’sh but hardly below except for periodic construction. Include about 15 miles of light city.
Conditions: FL., middle grade octane, no need for AC, bed up, no cover, 1,150 or so total miles.
17 Gal/313miles = 18.4.

Winter Gas

They put additives in the gas to stop it from freezing. So you aren't getting 100% gas.I really don't know how much it affects mpg but a Honda tech told me that was one of the problems with the gas mileage in it. My Fronty would always get 400kms in the summer and drop to 275kms in the winter. I am not someone who lets it idle long it is just all the winter factors (gas, cold, spinning tires, 4wd, etc..)

My only point about the winter is wait to test your mpg in the summer...that will give you a better measurement.

first tank, pussyfooting... and 3/4 highway @70mph
15.6mpg

second tank, lots of city driving, still kinda light on the pedal
14.1

one tank towing a Sentra on the highway at 80mph
13.8

all city driving, heavy foot driving
11.6

Hopefully my Banks exhaust will make a dent in it, going on this week!

Oddly enough, gets slightly better gas mileage than my old 03 pathfinder, I'm just happy to have grunt now!

I’m such a Dork.
I try to justify my purchases & upgrades but 2. could theoretically pay you back. exhaust & bed cover.
Would you please keep us posted on the exhaust system!!; & evaluate pre/post performance including gas consumption.

The added umph.. Is just icing on the cake… or so I keep telling myself.

As some of you suggusted I had service check to see if my Titan was running to rich when I had it in the shop on Friday to change out the rear middle seat belt. Nissan service said that there was No problem. I asked about why I was getting no better than 13 MPG. They told me it was because of my driving. I drive about 28 miles to work everyday 23 miles freeway and 5 miles getting to and from the freeway. I dont go over 65 mph or 2000 rpm. So, that explanation is incorrect. I guess Iam just going to have to accept low mpg. Its a good thing I live in SE Texas where gas is a 1.52/gal.
