FYI-- Just passing on some info
With less than 2600 miles I already have a new windshield because a rock hit just above the VIN number and the crack that grew over 18 inches in 2 hours. The retail cost of the windshiled is $213, they did not have the factory plastic/rubber edge guard (so far a Nissan only part), but the generic guard looked just fine. Installer said he could get the fatory part if I decide I hate the generic stock. A couple plastic clips holding the large plastic parts at the bottom of the windshiled broke during "de-installation" and will need to be ordered from Nissan as well.

I live in Larkspur. Let me know who the gorilla works for that did the install so I can avoid them.
I really hate to hear of that misfortune...I live in dread of the flying rocks...hope you took care of all the bad karma in this one incident, bestatchess...

I guess stone chips are different depending where they hit. I had one on my Durango from the third day I owned it and after 100K miles it was still there with no sign of cracking.
I was upset when it happened, but I decided that until it actually started to crack, I wouldn't do anything about it. The new owner of the truck is going to have to deal with it now unless the dealer fixed it, which I really doubt.

WOW!! sorry to hear it. I am in the same boat. I caught a rock last week and I have a nice 12" crack now. Seems as if these windsheids are a little weak. I Heard it but it was not that hard of a hit. I have been hit alot harder many times in my old 300M without even a chip.
Why would that be covered under warrenty? If anything insurance will normally coer 100% of the replacement (or even chip fixes) if you have that in your policy. I know I always choose it... it's paid off enough times!
I'm pretty sure that here in Florida insurance has to fix it no questions asked without any deductable. I know it used to be the law, don't know if it still is, but I think so. Not many people know till it happens to them.

Still he law. Vehicles must be insured in Florida and insurance must replace broken windshields with no deductable.

Nope.... I did not even consider checking with Nissan.... Just an insurance claim with a $100 glass deductable. The installers were Elite Autoglass which are considered top notch and I used them before. I suppose the installer was just a bit careless. They'll give me a call to replace the cowl clips when they come in. I saw the rock.... but it hit behind a sticker, my Titan was in a cold parking garage in Vail for a week and only started crack as I drove home. Had I noticed the chip.... I could have called my insurance company and they would have sent someone to repair it for free. The crack repair limit is about the length of a dollar bill.
