best way to polish out a scuff?
hey guys, I have a scuff down my drivers side door that I'd like to remove. I cannot really describe it as a scratch since it appears to be resiudal material on top of the paint, not a surface scratch that I can feel. I tried simply rubbing with a chamois with no luck. I am thinking I will need to try a wax, rubbing compound or polishing compound. I am DEATHLY afraid to bring something abraisive to the paint. Any suggestions?

I removed some 'post' paint from my wife's Maxima with some polish called Nu Finish. Worked great and I took off a lot of ugly stuff. Wouldn't use anything with a grit in it though.

I only use Nu-Finish. It works great!!

Use a Mild Polish
Don't use wax initially.....you don't want to seal over the scuff, you want to remove it. You will want to use a mild polish to first remove the scuff and then come back and wax/seal the section you just polished. Nu-Finish is a polish with a sealant and it appears that some folks here have use it with some success. I prefer to use Meguire's Deep Crystal Polish, which has extremely mild abrasive qualities, to cut through the scuff or rub out scratches and then come back with the sealant/wax after the blemish is gone. The Deep Crystal is mild enough that you can remove things without fear of breaking through the clear coat. Also, use a clean, soft, terry cloth towel to rub any of these compounds on you paint.
It sounds like an easy fix that you can do yourself and be extremely happy with the results.
