Silly question, I expect a silly answer

The Titan is labeled as a 1/2 ton truck? Now when I was in math class many years ago, a ton was 2,000 pounds. a 1/2 ton truck means, to me, a truck that weighs in at 1,000 pounds. If that is true, then how can a 6,500 pound truck (3.25 tons) be called a 1/2 ton truck?

I know we don't teach English (or spelling for that matter) in school anymore, but when did this new math start and who forgot to tell me?

Told you it was going to be silly - I had a long day at work and am in a very strange mood tonight.

cowboy is right, the original classifications were based on literal cargo capacity (not towing capacity). Ton ratings are more or less based on gross axle ratings/cargo capacity and towing capacity now.

You have to allow for the curvature of the earth and factor in continental drift, and X=magnetic flux
