Unhappy Truxedo cover

Just finished installing my Truxedo low profile roll up and got a few surprises. While the cover looks great you can't use the accessories to there full potential.

1-Because of the covers mounting system with the track the bed divider has limited movement and you won't be able to push it all the way to the front of the bed.
2-If you put the middle bracket on and install the factory adjustable tiedowns the bed extender won,t go all the way inside the bed so you can't close the tail gate.
3-You can't flip the bed extender making it impossable to remove it from its brackets.
4-The only way to remove or install the bed extender is to undo the brackets on the back of the rails and slide the extender and its brackets out from the rear.

I've been reading every post in this great site and havn't heard anyone comment about this.Has anyone else run into this or am i just the lucky one?

I also installed a banks system a few days ago i'm still evaluating it.One thing i can say is that it is loud enough to set car alarms off when you get on the throttel.

Well thanks for listening i think i'll take a break and have a and some of this anyone want to join me?

Well if you did a search or found my and others threads and posts on this you would have known all this and also how to install the cover so that you can use your extender. I dont want to be redundanty on this but if you cant find them I will help you out. I was the first one to have this cover and posted many times on this, you could go to the members list and should be able to find them look under me.

I've have the cover that is for the utility- track. But it dose not matter which one you buy they both will work! But with the utility-track you get the clamps that bolt inside of the tracks which are alot stronger then the clamps that bolt outside of the tracks. In either case you will need a self tapping screw on the end or a nut and bolt. This way all you have to do is slide off the extender flip it up and slide it back on for it to fit the tail gate when opened. All of about 15-20 seconds to do. This way you do not have to remove any clamps! And like I said before if you have a crew cab you do NOT need the Middle Clamps! JUST THE ENDS ARE NEEDED! So you can slide the extender front to back! With the Reg. cabs the rails are to long and you do need the middle clamps for suport. All of this and many more ? have been answered on this in my other posts and threads, if you guys look for them you should be able to find them. If not, any more ? just let me know!

My Truxedo is on it's way! I will have the same set-up as you so I am going to try and duplicate what you have done. I have read all your posts!

The only part I think I might have trouble with is how to install the rail at the back (tailgate end) in order to use the bed extender. I read how you said to install it but sometimes it is hard to visualize what you are reading if you don't have the product. So I will wait for it to come then see if I can figure it out.

Too bad you couldn't post a couple of close up pictures of the screws you used (where) and pictures of how the bed extender slides off.

I ordered last week from Jamie in MA but I am in Canada so it might take awhile.

Keane... you are going to love your cover!!!!
It's is top shelf! Well lets see if I can clear this up for you.
1. you will need to use a self tapper or drill for a nut and bolt to attach the cover frame rails to the box. This is by the tailgate, after the tracks, you are securing the cover frame rails to the bed box. If you use any clamps in the middle or by the tailgate you will not be able to slide your extender front to back or off.
It will hit the clamps. Crew cabs do not need middle support.
2. The way I installed my cover is, I have two Utili track clamps on the front tracks by the cab.holding the frame rails to the box.
I have a crew cab so NO Middle support is needed.
On the back by the tailgate that is where I have the self tapping screws one for each side.
3. With NO Clamps in the way your extender will slide fully front to back, you can not lift it up it will hit the frame rails of the cover so you will have to slide it off of the tracks trun it so that it lays on the tailgate and then slide it back onto the tracks and tighten the knobs. I have had no problems with this at all! It works great and is easy to use! I hope this info is of some help to you!

NO I used the self-tapping screws INSTEAD of the clamps!

Where did you get that?? SCREWS THROUGH Clamps! I never said that!!!

Well I see that if you figured that I used Screws through the clamps! You Should be able to figure this one out yourself ???????

Well have a nice day and try not to make people feel like idiots just because they don't understand what your trying to say.
Well I'll ask you, what dose it mean when you say I used screws on the clamps? That you think I screwed into the clamps! Thats what it sounds like to me! What else could you have meant when you say that! And you state at the start of your thread that you read everybodys post and have not read of any problems or concerns that you have!
There are so many threads and post on this by me and otheres that I really do not think you ever looked at any of them!! As far as not understanding what I'm saying. It's simple, two clamps on the front by the cab and two screws on the back by the tailgate. Know how hard is that to figure out!!
You know you have to attach the covers frame rails to the bed right! Theres only one lip on the bed where you can screw to! If you have this cover on your truck I cant believe you can not see or understand this like you say!
So many people rehash the same topics and ??? with out doing any searchs! There is alot of great info on this site if some of the poeple would just look for it. But I guess they just want some quick answer or reply instead of looking up on the subjects. I did move a lot of the threads and post on this to the front for poeple to find. Just my thoughts

deepwater i too had some trouble visualizing what your were talking about but i do not have the truxedo yet so maybe thats the reason. i just think its hard to visualize how stuff works and how people make things work. i to reread many of your posts and could not clearly obtain info on how and what you did. so i think some people may have a hard time depicting exactly what you did. i do not have the truxedo yet so i have no refrence but im sure when i get it i will figure it out. thanks for explaining though

Fella's easy now.

Deepwater...I for one do appreciate the pictures and post of your experience with the cover as it has also made my mind up that this is the one for us. But, please understand as the other poster said, without it sitting right in front of you, some things are hard to visualize. I have had many Q's myself from a lot of people on the billet install.

Bass and any others...please understand that doing a search first may help alleviate some issues like this.

This is a good place to discuss this truck, accessories, etc etc...lets try and keep it that way for everyone.

Here is a virtual toast to all

Chris

What’s said is said & Chris summed it up.

As a suggestion when things get personal past a point of constructive take it off public display.
