A.R.E. lid a no go! (Did get installed 4-27-04)

No go on the Tonneau. ARE did not ship the clamps with the tonneau. Has to have special clamps to work with the utili-trac. Bummer! Maybe Tues. $#@&*%$#

FLfinfan sorry to hear that! Seems like it's always something! Make sure they put the gasket tape on your top and not your truck rails when they do install. Good luck!

I'm still engineering my homemade A.R.E. lid removal system. I've gotten the hoist and pulley system up in the garage ceiling but I slowed down on the lifting points on the lid. I don't want to pop that great paint job off! I think I have a promising idea using foam canoe rooftop blocks for support. I'll post later or you'll hear me whinning about the $$$ I dropped on the garage floor!

Would like to see that when you get the pics. I'm still trying to decide between the Fold-a-cover and the ARE LSII.

1st post

Do the clamps for the lid interfere with the use of utlitrac accessories like the bed divider/extender and/or the overhead rack?
How much?

What other options are available with the utilitrac?
I checked with Retrax and they said the will have one in a couple of weeks but it would be a drilled installation.

Hello cshepherd:

So far I have less than $100 invested. It's raining here this week but when it clears I'll post my progress. The additional light will help with photos. The items are already ready for purchase and not much to rig. Since the A.R.E. tops overlap the truck rails the point of contact for lifting is on this overlap. I'm trying to insure this is not damaged. Stay tunned!

Orange:

The clamps fit on the very ends of the trac so no real problem, you lose about 2" at each end. I use all those accessories with mine and have no issues.

It's on (ARE LSII) and I am happy I got it done. Seems more aerodynamic on the interstate also. Glad I can lock my stuff up and not really worry about it anymore. Bed divider still works great. If you want pics I will post, but there are several on here with pics up already so I won't add more unless requested.

Can you post pic(s) showing the special clamps?

Ahhh, thanks. So the clamps engage the track and take up just a little space at each end, right?

I got a call today saying my A.R.E. lid was in. I was excited about getting it put on Friday. But.... On the way home today I got rear ended. ( thats me with a case of the reds) So, I'll need to get it fixed before I put mine on.

FLfinfan:

Congrats on the install, I'm sure that you're pleased! You should post yours as well so the group can see what a super job they do with the color match and the top as a whole.
