MR Grille and zip tie longevity question

Having seen how well zip ties don't hold up when used outdoors I would be concerned about the longevity of the ties.

If you have installed one of these billet grilles do you think there is a better way to attach the grille using a different method, hopefully a little more permanent?

You could but you would need some patience and hardware.....

In between the billet lines you see the mounting braces are tacked to the back (Flat pieces).

With a lil inginuity and some very small black nuts and bolts...I don't see why you couldn't lay a flat piece of metal bar behind the grille --- drill a hole through the braces and the bar behind it and 'pinch' the grille in between with the nut and bolt.
There is NOT a lot of room between the billet lines there...as wide as the twist ties thats why they hide so well. So your hardware would have to be small and your drilled holes even smaller...

Another idea would be to fabricate a mount that comes in from the backside that could be tack welded to the back of the grille and bolted somewhere behind the factory grille...

ITs all up to how much work you want to put into it and how inventive you are.

Chris

I had a billet grill held on by zip ties on my Durango for 5 years. It didn't slip or budge at all over that time and I beat that truck really hard.

I had the spare tire carrier on my Ranger held up by one of the smaller sized zip ties for 3 years. I think the grill may be ok too.

Hmmm...we regularly use high quality zip ties at my parents boat dealership to hold steering cables, hoses, wiring, etc together w/o any problems whatsoever for years. If they are decent quality this should not be a concern. Besides that if you have 10 of them holding on your grill, even if one or two broke you wouldn't be losing much strength. Just check them every time you change the oil and you should be fine.

If zip ties make you that nervous, you can get a bolt on grill.
