Easy way to mount aftermarket stereos!

Ok I finally took some pictures of the aftermarket stereo install. You do not have to have a custom bezel made. The XE no option version has a cutout for a 2 din radio (large style radio) Factory Nissan Part number 68260-7S200 around $50.00. Just make sure they order the right one for ya. Then you need a $12.00 or so installation kit to get the pocket that fills up the rest of the hole if you go a 1 din stereo. I chose an istallation kit for a Nissan Pathfinder Metra Part # 88-00-9000. You will also use the stock brackets that currently attach the factory stereo.

I chose the Pioneer 8600MP for the deck and installed the XM tuner under the seat. It is also very easy to hook up. I will look inside and get the color wires you need to splice into to run power ground, illumination and accessory hookups to the new stereo. The speaker side I do not know since I run RCAs to amps in the back. I am sure there is a wire harness you can buy to match it up with the deck you purchase.

Enjoy

It seems like you could use an Alpine deck with built in XM and put an Alpine changer right under it in the dash, no?

I have the full RF nonsense with DVD & NAV. Do you know if there is any available head unit that would integrate with that?

I was wondering the same thing. I think the stock head unit is a little bland. I want something that looks a little sharper. If there is another head unit thats compatible someone let us know.

Awesome. I'll take a genuine Nissan dash piece anyday over an aftermarket install kit. Looks good.

DTEK,

Thanks for posting up. I like what you've done.
I have a few questions for ya.
1. Is that a pocket underneath your head unit or what?
2. Were you able to integrate existing steering wheel controls?
3. Does the Nissan part replace the entire center including the center storage tray on top?

I was considering doing something like this, but wanted to integrate a screen in the center pocket like the stock Nav system has.

Any info appreciated.

Thanks,

RoughRider

"3. Does the Nissan part replace the entire center including the center storage tray on top?"

No, it is just the center dash cover ("cluster lid C"). If you look at your dash you can see the line below the center storage tray is the top edge of the center dash cover. The center dash cover is just held on by clips and you can pull it off pretty easily. If you dowloaded the service manual, take a look at page IP-12 which shows this. The storage tray on top comes off with the piece ("cluster lid D") that frames the center dash cover. This is the piece that has the vents and goes all the way down to (and includes) the portion where the lighter sockets and switches are mounted. According to the manual, you have to remove the center console to get "Cluster lid D" out.

bestatchess: I am not sure about how to do this when you have existing Nav and DVD. I do not think it would work with any factory items. You can definitely use the Alpine with the built in XM and use that same deck to control a remote CD changer unless Alpine has one that would mount in a din slot under the deck.

RoughRider: Yes that is a pocket under the deck. It is out of the installation kit. I do not have the steering wheel controls since this was an XE with the preffered package. I am pretty sure no factory stuff would operate with any aftermarket stereo. Bestatchess is right on about the bezel

I found a solution to the steering wheel situation last night. It will require:

- Your steering wheel has to have the control switches.
- $70 to give to Crutchfield.
- An aftermarket radio that has an infrared remote.
- It looks like Sony support is nonexistant or very limited. Sony doesn't appear to use industry standard IR frequencies.

Basically, you wire the switches on the steering wheel to this magic box. You'll then need to find a spot to mount the infrared LED, presumably aimed at your new head unit. You then program the magic box like you would a learning IR replacement remote and off you go.

There are two possibilities on the steering wheel wiring. This PAC box wants resistive loads switched in and out of the circuit so it can determine which button was pressed by looking at resistance/voltage. Some manufacturers do this and others have a different approach, which involves all switches being on a different circuit in cases such as those, it looks like you'd need to wire things up with the resistors yourself.

From the service manual, it appears the Titan has the resistors, so this looks to be pretty much drop-in - connect the switch wires, 12v, ground, aim and mount the LED, program and you're done.

The part is PAC SWI-X:

Are the dimples are for Armada Driver/Passenger Climate controls?

I don't think any Titans use these dimples??

That's what I have been waiting for.

Here is what I want to put in there. It's a 6.5 inch LCD touchscreen that plays DVD, CD, Sirius Satellite Radio, Navigation. I was going to put in my 350 ZRoadster but I had already started a car pc. I bought the Titan SE without the Navigation so I could put this in.

Yes, Crutchfield is not known for good prices, I never buy from them. But I usually use them to look up info, better prices can always be had. Use Google's Froogle.
