Lowering

I am looking to lower my Titan and put some rims on it. I just haven't decided how much to do so and also how much this will sacrifice the ride. I've heard the comments about squeaks and rattles, and I already have one coming from the back seat somewhere. I don't know if I should just lower the back to even out the truck, or if I should also lower the front some, and then even the back. I'm looking to put 22's on it and want to fill the wheel well nicely, I just don't want a horrible ride. Also, anyone hear about problems with big rims like this bending, because this also makes me hesitant to put these on. Lots of questions, I know, but this is my first thread after reading on this forum for days. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks

A few guys here have 22s. One I remember is "gsxr1000." The Titans can fit ALOT of tire, as long as you don't get too wide of a rim. He put pretty big meaty tires on those 22s, there was still ALOT of side wall and the wheels didn't rub, he said.

I think the Titans look great lowered. I just can't do it to mine because I need to keep the ground clearance for light off-road use (getting my quads out in the dirt).

Do a search for my username and you will find several pictures I have posted of "Street Truck's" Titan Body-Dropped and Air-bagged over 22" wheels and the truck lays frame nicely. Looks pretty good, just not practical for what most of us use it for. Here's a pic.

(They put smaller tires on this truck so it would lay frame. You can fit another couple inches of sidewall without rubbing if you are not lowering this far)

I don't want to lay frame really, I have a 2wd so I just want to lower it enough so that the wheels fill the wells nicely with 22's, yet I want the ride to remain ok. I just want a clean apearance. I guess first I should get the rims and decide from there. Another thing is that I heard if you get to big of rims, they can bend. Thanks for the info...

Well, thats like I said.. with enough meat on the tires, there's enough side wall where they AREN'T really low-profile and the wheels won't take much abuse.

If you lower the truck without completely changing all of the suspension components like the control arms or spring perch locations then you will have to go with a shorter spring which will have to be a stiffer/heavier spring so you won't be bottoming out. The ride WILL be stiffer.

If you wan't to go with an Air Ride system then you will be pretty smooth, despite the lowering, but you will lose some of the good handling characteristics of the truck like turning hard.

You know the expression about having your cake...
