Aftermarket Door Speakers

Has anyone actually installed aftermarket door speakers? I did numerous searches, but all the posts talk about plans to do it, or speakers they have in other vehicles. I plan on swapping out the RF head unit with an Alpine or an Eclipse unit with XM capability, and getting all new door speakers. Right now I am considering Alpine, Eclipse, and Infinity speakers. Any thoughts? I have heard good things about Infinity, except that the Reference series sucks. Eclipse only seems to be a available at Good Guys or at Al n Eds Autosound.

Along the same lines, are component speakers superior to non-component systems? What are the mounting considerations?

Thanks in advance.

6X9's in the front doors. The doors have plastic mounting baffles that hold the driver away from the door cavity. I think crutchfield or somebody makes a 6X9 to 6.5 adapter. I removed the plastic and mounted a chunk of 3/4" mdf with a hole to hold 6.5's. There's plenty of room to hide crossovers under the dash and it wasn't too difficult to place the tweeters at the stock location in the dash.

I used Memphis Audio components because I have a local dealer that offered very good prices. I didn't even bother with rears because I think they screw up good stereo imaging.

Are you saying you put the tweeters in the spot of the dash that points straight up to the ceiling? I was told not to put the tweeters there because and to put them in the door because it would sound a lot better since i would guess they are pointing right at you.

It's subjective. If your speakers offer an easy way to mount the tweet to the mid, try it both ways. Choose that which you like better.
