:::EDIT::: I have now totally replaced my stereo system. Read about it here.
For those who haven't read my first attempt, you can find it here: http://www.titantalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12040 I wasn't satisfied with the sound of my two old RF 8"s in a ported box, so I decided to try again. This time I bought an Infinity 10" with a recommended rms power rating of 250w. I planned on powering it with my old RF 250w punch amp. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) this amp died on me. So I made another trip to Circuit City and picked up an Infinty amp with 283w rms. The sub required .75 cu ft of airspace for sealed enclosure, which made it a bit difficult to fit it under the rear seat. It also had a 5.5" mounting depth, which made it an even tighter squeeze.
Result: The system sounds much much better. The 10" can produce much lower frequencies than the 2 8"s and hits much harder with more power in the sealed box. It's able to really handle the heavy bass in rap and techno, but sounds excellent when listening to rock. I spent a fair amount of time tweaking the gain, bass boost, and crossover, and I think I got it where I want it. It doesn't over power the rest of the freqs, but is still felt. These pictures should help you visualize the rest:
With all the stiff wires running to it, plus it's own weight, plus the friction of carpet on carpet, it's not going to move. I also notched the mounts "legs" so they ride the contour of the floor board. I had the same mount set up with the now dead RF amp and it didn't budge.
whoa!!! you are good with the boxes, I am having the darndest time with mine, I think I may have to give up on under the front seat. can we get specs for this new box. I may have to just put it under the rear seat like everyone else, and blast the ears of my kids
The lip is 3/4 and is so my rubber floor mats will go under it without making the box any taller. On my last box the mats were crushed below the box, this helps it lay flat. I'll try and get some dimmensions to you later. Thanks for the compliments. I screwed up when carpeting it in a few places, but I covered em up as best I could. If I get real motivated I might make a new box that downfires and is fiberglassed. The sub boxes are starting to pile up in the garage now.
thx and wow is all I have to say-- you should sell the box for the 8"'s I am sure someone will buy it either here or on ebay. and by the looks of it, you may have a little side business for titan enthusiast if you have the time. I know someone who charges 70 for the 8" box, and 100 for the box you just built
Very nice! That is one of the nicest home-made boxes I have seen from someone who is not a professional audio installer person. Actually, its nicer than some that are manufactured.
Very nice job on the carpet! I HATE carpeting boxes, they always turn out so crappy on the edges for me. I guess it takes alot of patience... and glue
You are very brave to leave the wires exposed to the rear. Even if there are no people in the back seat, I might have cargo sliding around back there knocking against the wires. I see why the amp is positioned this way though, for the accessibility of the controls. Any thoughts on turning the amp sideways to guard the wires in the rear? I think the controls might still be somewhat accessible from the side under the seat. In any event, the amp is easily movable by your friction mounted design (carpet on carpet).
Great design!!!

Sammy--Does that whole box only have a volume of 0.75 cu ft? I know it is the internal volume that counts, but it looks a lot bigger. Also is there any benefit of downfiring subs versus upward firing?

The internal volume is .75 cu ft, or slightly less actually. Downfiring or upward, I don't think makes a huge difference. I believe the advantage of having it downfiring is that you don't get a directional sound, and the bass "fills" the cab more.
Sorry for the delay guys, but here what I've got in my CC Titan. I've got 0 guage wire running from my battery(which I'm upgrading) to a Batcap to keep the voltage constant. From there I've got 4 guage wire running to the fuse block and to the amps. 2 Rockford Power 500a2 (750 watts a piece) powering 2 12" Rockford Power DVC's (1200 watts RMS a piece). The box is made from 3/4" high density particle board. It's a sealed enclosure with each side have just over .90 cubic feet. My subs require .75, so it's a perfect match. I custom made it so there is a 3/4" ridge all the way around the top of the box. I made a grill cover by bending and welding 3/8" rod to form inside the ridge (not fun). I had to hand sew the grill clothe on the cover and by the way I suck at sewing. I plan on making a new box in the future, I've got some neon lights and plexi mirror laying around and might make a see through box. I'm putting on some 18" chrome American Racing Jammers tomorrow. Anyhow, here are some pictures.
Amps were mounted on a 1/2" board which was carpeted and mounted

I don't think I've got the pictures set up right, but I'm sure you guys can figure it out.
nice box dunder I like the cool way that you wrapped the box along the countour of the seat--are those two amps just for the two woofers? geez that must be way loud
