I've assembled the audio system

Hey all,

Finally got all the components for my audio rig. Please leave your thoughts!

All this is going into my Armada. The audio guy suggested a downfire box..what do you think? Anyway, the gear:

2 pairs of MB Quart RCE (Reference) 6.5" with tweets
1 pair of MB Quart RWE 302 12" subs
driven by a Soundstream TR800/5 tarantula amp
Premier DHP-930 head unit

I ended up going with the Soundstream tarantula after finding a killer deal ($450 shipped) on a brand new one.

That is a rockin price on the amp. I would have went with different subs, but to each his own. The system looks good. Nice head choice as well. Good luck. If you dont mind me asking, how much are they charging for install? Also, is the box fiberglass or MDF?

Probably MDF on the box. Total install is a little over $300, including installing my XM stuff, deck, dynamat, cabling, etc.

What subs would you have chosen? I was looking for the cleanest low end I could find...from what I understand the Quart subs are very accurate.

Kicker L7 or JL W6 or W7 series...also...they are matting and doing the install for only 300!? Is this place reputable? Shops in my area charge 1k to dynamat most vehicles. Also add a pair of Quart tweets in the dash or OEM tweet pocket in the front, they'll add great front stage. Rear not so important.

Wow, 1k? Sounds expensive. There are a billion car audio places here (Texas) $300 is about average for an install. The place is very reputable.

They're just going to dynamat around the 6.5's.

I wouldnt really recommend the L7 for clean low end. The w7 is a great choice. Infinity Perfects (http://www.cardomain.com/item/INFPERFECT10VQC) get down to 20hz and are very clean, however thier high end gets muddy (50hz and above). Phoenix Gold Ti's (http://www.cbrstereo.com/index.asp?P...rodID=500&HS=1) are great overall subs. If you want very clean, go with Image Dynamics MAX's or IDQ's (http://www.cardomain.com/shoplist~b~...s~t~Subwoofers). There are a lot of subs out there, however I am not knocking the MB's. I just think you may get better sound from another brand for the price. Good luck, either way I think you will have a great sounding system.

Thanks, I hope so. The MB subs are rated pretty flat all the way down to 18 hz- and with the freq. response of that amp (10-50k!) all of the harmonics will be covered as well. Not that I could hear them or anything!

I'll let you know how it sounds. Should be sweet!

Don't worry adjmcloon, that was a good choice of sub. They ARE very accurate and good for a SQ system as you seem to be looking for. You should be very happy with them. Let us know how it sound

Peanutbutter, I agree with your choices, but I would go with the MB subs over the infinitys. W7 are awsome, but too expensive IMO. The IDMAX subs are every bit as good as the W7's and somewhat cheaper (comparing same sizes). IMO the ID's give you the best overall sound and blend of SPL with SQ.

All this talk of audio just makes me want to upgrade my system from the stock RF C.R.A.P! ughhhh, can't shake that damn car audio bug.

Well, we all know it is in the install. I have heard some good MB setups and some bad ones. It just depends. I have also seen one 6 1/2 Crystal sub beat out two L5's in a drag race. Just depends on the install.

Sarka, I know how you feel. I really wish I could just get some rainbows in the front, some CDT's in the back, and a couple of W7's or Adire Brahma's downfiring under the back seat powered by Arc or Zapco amps. The brain of course would be an Eclipse or Denon head. That would only set me back $4000 - $5000 and then install Ah... dreams.

AAhhh, I see we share the same dream
.....True, the install is THEE Biggie! On my first system (just out of high school) I went all out on the components...MB's front & rear, a pair of 12" JL subs in a sealed enclosure, a pair of PPI amps (art series i think), Kenwood deck (my mistake there). Unfortunately I did the budget thing on the install bad choice, I got the boom boom, but no SQ whatsoever! I have since done a few systems myself with lesser quality components that sounded 100 times better.....
But back to that dream
