The gap is probably 1/4" to 3/8". It looks like it seals pretty well, but I am sure that dust will get in around the ends of the tailgate anyway. As long as the water stays out, that works for me. PS I noticed that the cap amplifies the exhaust a little bit. Might have to put a carpet kit in it ...Nah, it's a truck...what was I thinkin?

This is a copy of my e-mail to LEER regarding the sides of the 100XQ cap covering the Utilitrac:
LEER et al,
I understand that I am probably the first customer to purchase a 100XQ Cap for a Nissan Titan King Cab in SLC, UT
I must say that I am quite disappointed that my Nissan Utili-trac front and side rails were completely covered by the front and side rails of the cap. This makes them unusable. I had intended on using the bed divider in between the hold down clamps that you designed to fit the track system, albeit with less adjustment than normal. Now, my only choice is to try to modify the bed divider to work with the tracks in the bottom of the bed, where it will not be as strong.
You might consider re-engineering the sides of your caps so that Nissan Titan owners with Utili-tracks can use them. If the sides of the caps have adequate strength without covering the tracks, I would like to be able to modify the area between the hold-down clamps to clear the track for it's intended use.
Please advise me if this is a possiblity. I don't want to void the warranty.
Please forward this e-mail to your design team.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you,
Dave
Below is their response:
Sir
I do apologize for my oversight on the side rail length on this cap.
When the Nissan Titan came out to us over a year ago it was a proto-type
truck. All the engineering was done on the assumption they were not
going to change anything. Since then obviously they did add the
Utili-track system. As of the end of July the side rail length has been
re-engineered to 3/4". I know this doesn't help you any, but the rail
that is currently in the cap can be reduced to 3/4" with out voiding the
warranty. If this is something that you would do or send to the Leer
dealer to correct, or send back to the factory for us to correct, I
would gladly help in any manor possible.

Me again > I was happy to see their response included sending the cap back to them or the dealer, but I will probably trim it myself, and find a nice finishing strip to put over the edge. LEER wraps the carpet under the edge, and I don't want to peel it back and re-glue it, so I will probably just trim along with the fiberglass, and put the finishing strip on it.
