Attached are pictures of the dash with the Blaupunkt aftermarket radio and the rear door install of 6x9 speakers. The XM commander control head is attached to the dash with double-sided tape. The XM receiver module and CD changer are under the driver's seat just behind the not-in-service subwoofer.
The cables were unplugged from the Nissan amp and short jumper cables used to crossconnect output of the HU wiring to speaker wiring.
The sound is a couple of orders of magnitude better than the original.
The Metra kit is 7417, only a slight modification is required for it to work on the Titan. The speakers in the rear door of the KC are directly behind where the 6x9s are installed. The factory speakers could not handle the power available from the new HU. I removed the factory speakers to make way for the larger speakers.
is that speaker mounted on the outside of the panel??? Im a little confused
The new speaker is mounted to a piece of 3/4 inch MDF which in turn is mounted to the outside of the door panel. The MDF board is mounted to the door panel using wood screws and fender washers through the holes normally used by the factory speaker cover.
whoa now I get it----you werent worried about damaging the door panel at all by screwing into it??? I didnt try myself as I went with 6.5 all around--but why not just make a 6x9 baffle and put it inside the panel--less likely to get stolen I would think. are the king cab door thinner than the crews or something??
oh yeah are you not running a sub at all?? can I still dont undersand why you are running four 6x9's instead of 6.5's?? or do you just like the added bass output of the 6x9
No screws into the door panel. The trim piece that covers the factory speaker has six rectangular holes that it cllips into. I used wood screws from the back side of the panel (with fender washers to span the panel holes) to attach the MDF board to the door panel. Since the screws are using existing holes in the panel, there will be no additional holes in the panel when trade time comes and I remove the non-factory equipment. If I had attached the new speaker behind the door panel its sound output would have been partially 'masked' by the 6.5 inch opening in the panel.
Since the 6x9s have a larger area they will produce a little more bass than will a 6.5. I am not using any kind of subwoofer.
okay now I get it--sorry I was kind of slow--just trying to understand how everyone is doing there installs (cause Im a stereo head ). and without a sub I defnitely understand why you went the 6x9 route---have you figured a way to cover the opening below your head unit yet?? I am in the market for a new deck pretty soon
Yes, the area below the HU is a storage pocket. The wire from the XM control head runs through it and out the back (drilled a hole in the back of the pocket), but otherwise it could be used for CDs or a small notebook.
