AFtermarket Audio + DVD?

My installer called me and is having fits. Has anyone that installed aftermarket audio to replace the RF system successfully gotten their factory DVD to work with the headphones?

The further I read the service manual the more I think I'm screwed. I was under the impression that if I replaced the RF stuff the DVD player would still work with the Screen and the headphones, just without the rest of the integration. I am getting really pissed off at this point -- could they have made it any harder to deal with?

Does the DVD audio go through the factory HU? Anyone gotten this to work?

Yes the dvd audio goes through the HU then out to the rear controls. I think you can take your DVD audio and wire it directly into the rear control audio. The wiring diagram shows the audio going to the rear controls from the HU to be: orange(lh-),orange/blue(lh+),white/blue(rh-),white(rh+). Going into the rear controls they are black, green, red, white respectively. The vilolet wire is 12v+.....now for some guessing....The Enable needs a 5volt signal and the remote D (I think that is the DVD's) does as well. I don't know how you'd get the 5 volts though. I'm not positive about this but if you still have the HU you or your installer should be able to use a meter and see what is happening. I suspect when you hit the REAR AV it sends 5 volts back to the contoller enabling it. I'm not sure how the remotes work though. Everything says it takes a 5 volt input signal. You might not need to worry about the remotes as you wont have any other source going to it so whaterver is selected will play the DVD.

PM me your email if you don't have the service manual and I'll try to send you the AV section. The harness has multiple wires with the same color so you'll need it to ID their location on the harness.

Your other option is to just get a RF headphone set (which would give you better reception than the OEM IR) and forget about the rear controls. Since you replaced the HU the rear controls don't have much use anymore anyway.

I just re-read your post I see you do have the SM. How are you getting audio to the new HU?
