Hello all. I've searched high and low, read all the threads, and even have the AV PDF Manual...and I can't seem to find my answer. I figured I'd risk flames and harassment for not searching and post the question here. Here goes...
I'm looking for the wiring diagram to wire a 4/Channel LOC in at the factory head unit. (i.e. wire color = front rt +....front rt -....etc...) Has anyone taken the time to cross reference the AV Manual and the plug to get this info...? Would really appreciate it if someone could post this for me/us.
Thanks, and sorry if this is right in front of me and I didn't see it.
I think you can just plug in a Scosche NN03RB into the head unit.
Eakes posted this:
"AmpOn is pin 12. That is on connector M44. Battery (always on supply) is on pin 6 on connector M43. ACC (switched battery) is on pin 10 of M43.
M44 and M43 are the two connectors with the larger pin sockets. They are side by side on the HU, M44 is the smaller connector. If you look into the end of the connector with lock slot up: pin 12 is the top pin on the right of M44, pin 10 is the top pin on the left of M43, pin 6 is the third pin from the left (fourth from the right) bottom row of M43."
I think you can find the pin assignments for M44 & M43 in section AV of the manual.
if you want to save some although a little less neat just find the corresponding colors in the av section of the manual for front (left/right) Rear (right/left). the fronts are on one connector, and the rears on the other
Thanks Smoke, I don't mind wiring it that way. I'm just a bit confused by the wire color abreviations used in the AV Manual. I was able to get this far...
LR+ = SB
LR- = B/Y
RR+ = O/L
RR- = R/L
LF+ = L/W
LF- = L/R
RF+ = W/B
RF- = L/B
Anyone know what color these abreviations are...? That's ultimately what I'm trying to find out. I know...I know....Lazy......
You got the colors, but why not use the pin numbers? That to me is a lot easier. I would also get the connectors with pigtail wiring - I hate splicing into factory cables, it is awfully messy.
Colors are: R = red, B = black, S = slate, Y = yellow, O = orange and L = blue.
It's my understanding that even when using the Scosche harness, you still need to splice in the power and other various wires into the existing vehicle harness right...? This does sound like a cleaner install, I'd just like to make sure I know what I'm splicing and such. Thanks...!!!
eakes is defintely correct about it being meesy and time consuming--If I had known about the harness when I did mine--I woudl have have gone that route--it will save you some headache and cut fingers
There are two different Scosche harnesses. One plugs into the HU, the other fits into the dash wiring harness. Using these two connectors with their pigtails, wire the ground, ACC and BAT from one to the other. From the one that plugs into the HU wire the speaker leads to the LOC. Connect power and ground for the LOC to the connector that goes to the wiring harness (along with power and ground for the HU).
Once your 'jumper' is ready to go, remove the HU from the dash, unplug the two connectors containing the power and speaker connections and connect your jumper into the HU and the wiring harness. Fit the HU back into the dash and you are ready to connect your amps to the LOC.
If you want to use the existing speaker wiring, the output of your amps can be wired to the speaker connections on the wiring harness end of your 'jumper'. In practice if you wanted to do this, connect lengths of speaker wire to the 'jumper' while it is on the work bench and label the free ends. Once the 'jumper' is in place in the dash, route the speaker wires to the amp location, connect and the audio is ready to go.
This makes a very neat installation and it is very easy to return to a 'stock' configuration.
Thanks eakes...! Great explanation. I've ordered both harnesses, and I'll refer to your post when it comes time to wire it up. Again, I appreciate you taking the time to explain the steps.
Now, what kind of results are you all getting by adding a multi-amp system to the factory head unit...? Is this head unit clean enough to support a high powered, quality system...?
Josh, one thing is not clear. Which radio do you have? If it is the Rockford-Fosgate, it has an external amp mounted on the firewall underneath the brake pedal. All the speaker wiring is fed from there in that version. If you do not have the RF system, then everything that has been covered is entirely correct.
I believe I have the Midline System. I know it's not the RF. I think I heard if you have the 6 Disc In-Dash, that it's the Midline. I may be wrong, but I'm guessing everything is as you said. Thank You...!
