RF STEREO OUTPUT Voltage LOC ??

For those that are using LOC's like myself I was wondering if anyone else has checked the output from the HU through the RCA cables at the amp using a voltmeter yet. I am getting a weird grazy low signal of .4V (should be 9v), which is obviously not adequate this is all (post a few Nissan techs blowing my old amp and rear speakers by turning all my gains up and volume to 31 and then lying saying they didnt do it)--before this my system clean and perfect .

and I am wondeinrg if I can just chalk it up that my deck is dead or does the rf deck onlyput out a really low signal at the HU.

anyone want to check their signal at the RCA cable right before it goes into the amp for me with a voltmeter/multimeter to compare--I have a new deck on order from nissan, but I am deciding whether to scrap the idea and just go aftermarket

thx

Did you see the stuff regarding reference levels in the manual starting at AV-34 ?

Also, it looks like an inept attempt at the self-diagnosis mode described at AV-43 could do exactly what you are afraid of:

"Press and hold the PAUSE/MUTE switch and turn the volume control dial clockwise or counterclockwise for 30 clicks or more"

I would expect the output from the RF HU to be between 0.2 to 2 vp-p as measured using an oscilloscope. The output will be a varying waveshape with varying level depending on what is being played and the volume setting. A voltmeter will not give an accurate reading of what the actual level is. The RF unit has no high level output transistors since it expects to play into an amplifier so its output would look something like the line out of a run-of-the-mill aftermarket HU.

The output of the mid-level radio would be greater since it contains "high-power" amps that directly drive the speakers.

If someone cranked up the volume and something blew: Speakers would probably go first followed by the amplifier. I would not expect the HU or LOC to be damaged by this action. On the other hand it is possible the HU failed in some manner independent of cranking up the volume.
